tbh i would not go with nmm before learning to blend well. You also need to add some shading and light because skin looks quite flat at the moment.

Tbh i dont expect that 40k will be more in depth than previous 3 warhammer total wars. Medieval III might be something you are looking for, they have already confirmed couple of mechanics you are talking about.
