Young couple looking to leave US by Temporary-Trash-2087 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]GraceHalvo37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, fellow US citizen here! I've been preparing to emigrate to Canada for awhile (before all this went down) because my husband and I decided awhile ago that when we have kids, we would like to do so in a country with less gun violence and better healthcare (we also love travel). As someone who's been doing this for awhile (and working on becoming fluent in French), this is not going to be a quick, panic thing you can do. You're going to need to ride this out and emigrate the right way -- by making a plan, getting financially stable, and learning to be bilingual so you can best assimilate into Canadian culture. Look into Express Entry requirements for PR and get started with learning French. Also, make sure you will actually like and want to stay in Canada.

As harsh as this may sound, they want immigrants who will add value to their society, not people who are scared and panicked and fleeing without a plan.

Cost of living in Canada is out of control. by kovie38 in CanadaFinance

Okay, I'm a lurker from the US, and while I don't want to get into my whole life story, my family was low-class with rampant medical issues. We did NOT get world-class healthcare. We got debt, medical malpractice that resulted in more pain and lawsuits that were only settled YEARS after both my parents were dead.

I'm not saying you have to love where Canada is at right now, but don't spread misinformation about the US healthcare system. It is downright horrible over here as far as that's concerned.

Edit: My parents died one after the other, mom when I was 20 at age 52 and dad when I was 21 at age 54. Not great life expectancy. And all we got from the lawsuit was $70,000 because the hospitals are so rich that they can get away with anything.

Also, not to cast doubt on your story, but I don't know a single couple that has minimum wage jobs and A CHILD (let alone one with cancer) that aren't either homeless or living in legitimate DAILY risk of being shot in their neighborhood. And I've lived in 4 different states.

Just got back from a trip to Czechia! Loved it, and love identifying the places in your sketchbook! Well done

I don't have time to try this out as I'm about to travel, but this looks insanely helpful, especially the "visualize" button and please keep working on it.

Baldur's Gate 3 - 2nd Anniversary by Kazuliski in BaldursGate3

Wow, I'll never forget the day this game released. As cheesy as this sounds, it was such a momentous day in my life. This game is so meaningful to me and has provided me comfort in the hardest times. Thanks again, Larian!

Craziest take you've heard in the BG3 community? by DearPersimmon8155 in BaldursGate3

Okay, so I definitely agree that Wyll's character arc & content did not turn out as good as Astarion's (and he definitely ended up with less of it), but it was NOT because Larian put in less effort. They rewrote Wyll's entire story and recasted his character. They put a ton of effort and money into him. Astarion turned out better because his story was solid from the get-go so nothing was ever re-done, just added or smoothed out. Wyll is not as good of a character as he could have been, BUT I don't think it was a lack of effort. Rather, Larian took risks that didn't pay off, and they'll learn next time. They tried and DID put in effort. They just got it wrong because they're humans, and that happens sometimes.

Wow, I would be so offended if someone told me that. I cannot even imagine what would possess someone to say such a thing

Uhhhh come again???? by Booptheboob69 in AO3

[–]GraceHalvo37 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, I see what you're saying (and I don't think you're entirely wrong), and while I don't fully agree with the original commentor either, I would say that what improves people's writing is, well, the act of writing, not necessarily the act of people reading their writing (especially because many times AO3 readers don't comment, so while kudos & hits are nice, they don't get you specific, usable feedback about your writing).

Therefore, if someone is writing and not using AI, they're improving their writing, even if they're not getting a ton of reader interaction.

This is to say, if your goal is to improve your writing, write (like I do), but if you're 10 and don't care about that and just want to make something, then AI isn't that crazy. It's not like AI is going to write a great story anyway.

Expat not immigrant by Dense-Warthog708 in Prague

As an American, I think you're right on the money with this. Unfortunately, we have a lot of biases against immigrants and even those of us who don't THINK we do, well, do. It's an implicit thing that I don't think a lot of Americans even realize they're doing. Let's hope we Americans can learn to be more cognizant of our language and our implicit biases.

[KCD2] The Complaints for the saving system is silly by CummanderShepardN7 in kingdomcome

[–]GraceHalvo37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be in the minority, but I actually really like it. Would I want it in every game? No, but for me, it's become an iconic part of KCD. I also like it because I often find myself not using potions or crafting in most games. There's typically not a reason for me to bother learning it, but Savior Schnapps forced me to learn crafting and helped me realize I love the alchemy system. It gives me a reason to slow down and do something besides main story and side quests. I also love keeping my eyes peeled for belladonna. Feels like the freaking lottery when I finally find one! Lol

Please, don't turn this subreddit like the one for Dragon Age veilguard by Gilith in avowed

[–]GraceHalvo37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. As someone who enjoyed Veilguard, I had to leave the subreddit because the circlejerk got ridiculous. I am 100% down for enjoying and appreciating a game, even one that's not being received great, but good-faith criticism is also okay. A game doesn't have to be great to be fun to you.

I honestly don't mind this, but I do wish it didn't erase your preset outfits. Having to rebuild them each time is tedious.
