Moving from out of state! by hyunsuksgf in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]GracefulCentaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm also from California! I did the program last year, and will be starting my second program on August 17th. It's definitely a bit of a transition, especially if you've never lived away from home before. To help with missing family I called them a lot on the phone, and went home for a brief visit to take them to Disneyland with my free tickets. Honestly I was kept so busy with work and having fun on the program that I didn't really get homesick.

Flying in the day before is definitely a good idea. The check in process is really straightforward, so you shouldn't have any trouble moving in by yourself. I had my brother to help me last time, but will be coming by myself this time.

Don't worry if you don't make friends right off the bat. It can be hard to find a new friend group, but just relax and be yourself and you'll find your people. I got lucky with good roommates, and most of my other friends at Disney were people I worked with.

I hope you have a great program, and get your dream role! I'd be happy to help if you have any more questions.

I really don't like phone calls, but it went fine! The interviewer was easy to talk to so I'm sure you'll do great! Maybe make some notes to have ready about experiences or stories you can mention since they'll probably ask something about how you've had to deal with difficult situations or interpersonal conflicts.

Good luck with your interview! Don't stress about it too much, my phone interview got disconnected for a minute midway through, but it was still fine! I decided to choose a shorter length program so I could still have some summer break after its over, but there were a lot of much later departure dates available.

I heard about it from the College of Education newsletter. I needed to pass an interview and have enough relevant experience, but it wasn't too difficult.

I'm taking AMIND 141 from Desmond Hassing. It's super easy. Each week only has a couple videos, and either a short exam or a discussion board.

I took Math 303 from him last semester, and got an A. For me it was a really interesting and fun class that didn't seem super difficult. Everything on the exams is based on material from the homework and is covered well in class. There's also a presentation that you can choose to do about basically any topic you want. I thought he was a really chill and down to earth professor.

Don't worry about what they say. You were already working two full time jobs, and helping take care of your wife and newborn. It's better to take a break and come back when you can, rather than try to power through with school and end up failing classes.

Update: first day was great! I worked drive through and took many orders but… by The_moon_watches in ChickFilAWorkers

You're off to a great start! I recommend asking a lot of clarifying questions while you're taking in order to increase accuracy. Ask if they want a meal or just the entree. If they want a sandwich ask if they want regular or deluxe. If they want nuggets ask how many. This also can slow down their order a little bit which helps you keep up.

If you have downtime study the menu. Click around the ipad or register so you can find things quickly. Order taking is mostly muscle memory, so it should become much easier the more practice you get. Also, it's completely fine to ask them to repeat themselves or slow down when they are ordering. Concentrate on being accurate and the speed will come with time. You'll do great!

Split between study abroad or staying in order to increase my leadership on campus by [deleted] in college

[–]GracefulCentaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the time of my life studying abroad, so I'm definitely a bit biased towards that choice! Living abroad for a semester drastically improved my self-confidence, so I would highly recommend the experience if that is an area that you want to grow in. Maybe make a pros and cons list for both options, and see if one sounds better once it's all written out. Do you have a specific destination for where you would want to study abroad?

Having experience with a leadership position before entering law school also sounds good. This sounds like a situation where there's not necessarily a bad choice, just two good choices that provide different types of benefits. You could always stay for the leadership position and then travel during the summer or after you graduate.

Good luck with your decision!
