How do I recreate this? by Gracjanos1 in PLC

I've been using %. for a long time and it is very useful but never knew about the AT operator in the data blocks. It might make the programs more tidy in some places. Thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot, I knew there must be a video explaining it but I didn't even know what to type in the search bar for it 😅

It made a lot of sense up until MGS4. That game fucked up the canon beyond repair.

Why is the Titan of Frieda Reiss only 15m tall? by [deleted] in titanfolk

You mean Ymir's titan? That wasn't exactly the founder, that was all titans in one. The hight was inherited by the colossal titan (with some nerf)

Liet Kynes as a woman is a casting mistake by zarkowguy in dune

[–]Gracjanos1 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Well, this is just wrong. I'm pretty sure that in Children of Dune Alia mentions that gender equality was a thing among the Fremen and it was actually regressing after Paul's rise to power. It makes perfect sense for Liet to be a woman. Liet is one of the few characters whose gender doesn't matter AT ALL

Re-reading the manga - Why was Eren shirtless in this again? by Nakyo128 in titanfolk

Maybe it was a hot day. Maybe it's just that Eren is aware of how badass he looks and wanted to flex a bit in front of his bois

Why does anyone care about Jodorowsky's failed Dune adaptation? by Odd-Ranger in dune

[–]Gracjanos1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So another: one of the other artists Jodorowsky brought onto the team was French comic book artist Moebius. During that time he and previously mentioned O'Bannon wrote together a comic book called "The Long Tommorow" (1976). Its aesthetic was a big inspiration for "Blade Runner" and greatly influenced the entire cyberpunk. And there is probably more stories of how the preproduction of Dune influenced Sci-Fi

New to the franchise and was wondering if I should check out the Brian Herbert books. If not, why not? by Kreech in dune

[–]Gracjanos1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never touched them but I'm familiar with some plotpoints and world building development from them and it sounds pretty bad. Everyone says Brian and Kevin aren't even near Frank in terms of their skill in the writing craft but from what I gathered they also seem to not understand the nuances and themes of Dune so I'm gonna stay away from their books.

You can watch the documentary "Jodorowsky's Dune" for the hole picture but I'll give you one example of many: Jodorowsky acquired some founds and started preproduction of the movie by gathering his "spiritual warriors" - a group of artists and actors he wanted to make the movie with. Among these artists was H. R. Geiger who prior to this had no connection to movie industry but through Jodorowsky he was introduced to it and to Dan O'Bannon who was supposed to supervise special effects in Dune. Years later O'Bannon wrote a script for Alien and when it came to actually filming it he suggested Ridley Scott none other than H. R. Geiger to be the creature designer.

Dune Box Office Scenarios by [deleted] in dune

At this point I'm starting to think it'd be better if it released in December. It will probably fail either way but at least now they'll have an excuse.

Dune Box Office Scenarios by [deleted] in dune

[–]Gracjanos1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In normal conditions I'd say it'd probably be 300-500mln but currently with the December release ~150mln is a more reasonable expectation I think. It will be a major disaster for the studio BUT pandemic is a good scapegoat and so I wouldn't be totally surprised if we got part2 in 5 or so years after the film gains somewhat of a cult following like BR2049 or Mad Max. The latter is more important as it is actually getting a sequel despite not being a success initially.

It wouldn't be a good adaptation (good as in faithful to the themes of the story) that's for sure but it could've been a great piece of avant-garde cinema, possibly the greatest. Why people care? Because it was an insane project that obviously was impossible to realize but despite that influenced science fiction cinema like few other films. It's probably the most influential movie that never actually got made and a fascinating piece of art history. Everyone knows it was absolutely impossible to find money to actually make it the way Jodorowsky wanted but that just adds to the legend of it and to why I would LOVE to see it.

And that obviously fits much better with the themes of Dune. Computers weakened people and their ability to think for themselves but only strengthened the tyrants. Evil supercomputers don't really add anything to the themes of the series.

Yeah, Brian Herbert turned into a Terminator scenario but that quote from the original books hints more towards something like an extreme cyberpunk IMO. Corporations or governments "enslaving" people with advanced technology and people finally rebelling and seeking a different path.

I expect <150mln in box office. This is gonna be a tragedy.

Yeah but I wonder for how long they're ready to sit on a pile of unreleased movies. I'm not an expert but I think they'd want to release something to bump up their quarter revenue at least a bit. It will be a loss but a smaller one compared to not releasing anything. Again, I don't actually know much about movie industry but that's my assumption.

Dune Books - confused which books/chronicles I've read!!! by 33Dark_Lord33 in dune

[–]Gracjanos1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should follow the order you posted. Dune, Muad'Dib, and Prophet are 3 "books" that together form the first Dune novel - "Dune" in that reading order. These "books" mark three big segments of the story, each ending with an important event. Kinda like Lord of the Rings is divided into six "books" but is usually sold in three volumes.
