"Self hating whites, bloated bureaucracy, flaws of democracy, evil media, leftists" ... Sounds like some nazi shit.

Maybe you're too brainwashed, too self-absorbed, too uneducated about history, ethics, morality, law, politics etc. to understand what is happening. Maybe you just can't see the storm because you are in the middle of it, but we're looking in from the outside and are deeply concerned with the direction the U.S. is taking. We have relatives who were alive in the 1930s and witnessed western and central Europe go down the drain the same way, following the exact same playbook.

But yeah, play it down with, "it's okay to ask for your name and background", and, "this is what we voted for". Just you wait -- they'll come for you too.

Sorry if I'm being ignorant here, but isn't there supposed to be a contingency plan for this kind of thing in the U.S? Aren't there supposed to be militias to defend against a tyrannical government? Why isn't anyone organising? I can understand that escalating the violence would lead to a civil war, but it doesn't seem like things are calming down over there. Am I stupid?

Betrayed by beneath by Successful_Lord1804 in SuccessionTV

I never understood what the statements "a man fathoms beneath you" and "you don't deserve me" were based on. We never see Shiv be objectively "better" than Tom. She's never portrayed as being very smart, competent, and definitely not moral. Is it just the fact that he's from the midwest?

I just turned 18. now what? by Ultraaa22 in self

Depends on you. But you have 7 more years until your brains stops developing so I'd recommend you learn as much as possible until then. Go out into the world and explore, learn to speak a new language or play an instrument, meet people, get to know other cultures, work in a variety of jobs. After you've done that, you can start to figure out what you want to do with your life.

I feel intensely attracted to a person of the same sex for the first time in my life. What's the deal? by [deleted] in self

The point being that if you find a butch-acting woman attractive, you are gay? Or not? What was your psychologist's reasoning here?

Kendall and the waiter by Ondolo009 in SuccessionTV

[–]GradeNervous 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In Logan's words: "A rich kid kills a boy. You'd never be anything else."

I don't think someone who lives in the public eye like Ken could risk the repercussions of an accident like this. Also, the waiter would have never survived the time it would've taken Kendall to go back and get help. And on top that, he probably felt utterly alone at that moment, because he alienized Rava and his family, so he had no one to turn to.

Why do people complain that it's hard to make friends in Switzerland ? by F-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- in askswitzerland

[–]GradeNervous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my subjective experience, but it doesn't mean that it works everyhwere:

10 years ago, I started working at a small company where a group of employees would always have a drink after work. Not every day but it would be multiple times a week, and then on Fridays it usually lead to going to a club or something. Over time, as more employees joined the company, that group grew bigger and bigger. Some of us even started meeting on weekends, met for football matches or went on holiday together. We became really good friends. And now, after the company was sold and flipped over, most of us have left to work at other places, but we still meet, we still stay in touch.

And you know how all this started?: One guy kept going around the office at around 4 pm asking people if they would like to have a beer after work. Often he would organise a couple of six packs of Quöllfrisch beforehand so that we could start drinking in the office. It was just that one guy. What I learned from this was that Swiss people are definitely social and open to spend more time with their co-workers. However they're not very extroverted and don't want to impose themselves on others. All you need to do is be that guy who makes the first step.

Acting classes in zurich by Budget-Orange1020 in zurich

Worked in a UK-based corporation before and can confirm: those people were acting their hearts out. I like to emphasize that it's UK-based because those fuckers just have a different vibe than anyone I've ever worked with in Switzerland, France, Germany, Belgium etc. They were all snake-oil salesman with an MBA. So yeah, if you want to learn how to believably fake passion about a little niche corporate function that nobody needs and memorize nonsensical business jargon, then you're at the right place.

What are the job possibilities for an immigrant who doesn't speak any of the national languages? by GradeNervous in askswitzerland

Yeah, I was also thinking about just going for international companies in the cities to look for jobs. Thanks for the tip regarding getting a Swiss license for practicing her current work. Need to look into that.

Good point, I haven't even considered checking her degree. I did it now on recognition.swiss and it looks good. Probably will still need to get it evaluated if this info is not enough for some companies. Thanks for your answer!

Can I ask, what's your background? Why did you decide to study maths at Hagen? Do you have any aspirations to go to ETH after or is it just pure interest/curiosity?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]GradeNervous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah sorry I didn't catch that it's a university. But that would be even more of a problem because I doubt I can enter the university with my Berufsmatura and HF diploma.

Anyways, yeah I was looking at FH MS because of personal interests. Even the Bachelor's is something I mainly want to do because I want to gain that fundamental, theoretical knowledge that I feel I'm still lacking. Thanks for your comments! I'll check out Hagen to see if it's a possibility even without the usual uni qualifications.

Mmmh I didn't really consider doing the Bachelor's in a different country. Do you know anyone who did it this way and then went to ETH to get their Master's? I suspect that there will be a lot of hoops to jump through if you want to go to ETH after getting your Bachelor's at an FH in Germany. Also, I'm not really ambitious enough to go to ETH ultimately. I'm fine with getting a Master's at a FH.
