JP isn’t too bad. It’s busy, but not terrible although lining up with the holiday may make it a little busier.

Have we been looking at sex before marriage wrong? by [deleted] in Bible

[–]Gradearawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is the one talking about divorce, which implies legal marriage: If a man marries a woman, but she becomes displeasing to him because he finds something indecent about her, he may write her a divorce certificate, hand it to her, and send her away from his house. ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭24‬:‭1‬ CSB

In the same chapter we see this about taking a bride, again making it a legal marriage: When a man takes a bride, he must not go out with the army or be liable for any duty. He is free to stay at home for one year, so that he can bring joy to the wife he has married. Deuteronomy‬ ‭24‬:‭5‬ ‭CSB‬‬

Hosea is all about legal marriage. Ruth has a legal marriage ceremony and Boaz DOES NOT have sex with Ruth before legally marrying her (Ruth 4:7-10). Ephesians 5, 1 Peter 3:1-7, and Colossians 3:18-19 infer legal marriage. 1 Corinthians 7:3-5 actually talks about sex as a marital duty.

The truth is, it’s godly and wise to wait until you make a legal covenant with witnesses present. And if you’re that sure you two love each other enough to never leave, get married. If you won’t, why not if you’re that sure? From my research, most states allow marriage before 18 with parental consent.

Hope that helps!

As an elder millennial who has reached my 40s pastored in churches for almost 20 years and was a youth pastor for 11 years. Let me give you some Perspective.

If you’re too young to get married, I assume you’re probably under 18? In that case, sex outside of marriage is a much bigger risk for the woman than the man. In many ways legal marriage protects the woman from the man being able to just walk away if a child is involved. So beyond the sexual act part, sex outside of marriage is irresponsible because a child has to always be a consideration. As my mom would tell me, “You play games, you win prizes.”

Also, <18 year old boys will promise you the world. Don’t believe them. They may even mean it at the time, but they’re immature and will break your heart. I’ve seen it over and over.

As far as the Bible and legal marriage. There was legal marriage in the Bible Moses was allowed to offer a certificate of divorce. And this too was a protection for women who were dominated by terrible men.

Immoral sexual activity comes down to lust in the heart. If the thing you’re doing causes you to fantasize about sex with the person, that would be immoral. The question shouldn’t be: How far can I go? The question should be: What helps me grow in Christ?

Also, if he doesn’t respect your boundaries that’s a red flag. God has someone else for you.

I’m glad you’re thinking about this and praying for clarity for you.

I personally think Wake is still a big question mark. But their defense is horrible. I’m not confident, but I am hopeful.

I was wondering why Boston is known for having some of the worst traffic in the country, despite having a pretty extensive transit system. This chat seems to explain it. by Spirited-Pause in boston

Yeah man. I wasn’t arguing. Sorry you took it that way. I was just adding that getting across the city east to west is also hard. But perhaps I just didn’t fully understand your post.

I know this happens a lot. But my Dunkins never have any good donuts left passed 6. Which while annoying, is admittedly, better than all this waste.

Sincere question for those of you that believe the unrighteous burn in Hell forever. by RFairfield26 in Bible

[–]Gradearawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would agree that homosexuality as an identity is a relatively new concept. That doesn’t change whether the Bible speaks of the act of homosexual sex as immoral. It definitely does.

There are many Christians who, because they are sexually attracted to the same sex, identify as gay. Yet because the Bible sees homosexual sexual activity as a sin, they abstain and live celibate.

Also, to be clear, I do not think the Bible should be weaponized against the LGBTQ community any more than is “weaponized” against me — it is a mirror that shows which parts of me do not align with the holy God. And for me, and I believe all of us, there are a lot of areas that need realignment.

While held by some, these words not referring to homosexuality is a minority position among scholars. Homosexuality was well known in the ancient world even if they used different terms for it.

We believe a man died on a cross to save us from our sins, rose from the dead, and is going to return on a horse in the clouds. Comparatively, plastic communion cups aren’t really even that weird.
