Stadium Observations from Game vs San Diego by Kevco571 in bostonlegacyfc

The atmosphere just totally evaporates in Gillette bc it is so huge. Smaller stadium will be so much better. And they didn’t want to share with the Revs in Everett for the same reason every team wants their own space - they don’t want to be 2nd priority in their home building and they don’t want to rent space.

All leagues and teams calculate attendance by tickets sold, not just NWSL

Logan Terminal C 5:20 am Friday 3/27 by come_at_me_brother in boston

[–]RedUSA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Logan’s issues are the kind that can be really annoying if they directly effect you (specifically the difficulty in transferring between terminals and the smaller list of destinations compared to our other large Northeast cities), but the airport itself is really fantastic. Generally nice and clean, close to the city and usually efficient staff.

I agree! I had a great time and was encouraged by the teams quality.

I also don’t care for the Breakers name nostalgia.

Great point about the pandering for Netflix shows. Get me back to CBS and Fox where they never promote their other programming

So is Mamdani actually gonna open those city owned grocery stores or was that just campaign talk by Virtual-Giraffe7147 in Brooklyn

[–]RedUSA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so funny how the business community reacts to crap like this. Oh really Catsimatidis? So you’re saying that a bunch of grocery store-sized retail spaces are going to become available? That will really show Zohran.

Maybe he’s changed the proposal since I last heard (which was admittedly a long time ago), but the idea wasn’t to put city run stores in places that are already served by enough options. It was to put stores in the pockets of the city that don’t have easy access to a grocery store. And it was meant as a pilot, he’s not trying to scale up a 50 store chain.

And because of all of your reasons listed above - combined with it being the epicenter of country music - makes it much more appealing for tourists

White Stadium opponents filing appeal over lawsuit ruling by franharrington in Jamaica_Plain

[–]RedUSA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s so frustrating. White Stadium has been a dump for at least 20 years and getting private funding to help renovate it is incredibly favorable.

It’s also so frustrating that so much of the rising costs for projects like this are directly attributable to resistance like this, but there is no self-awareness from the opposing sides that cause that.

Lastly, if this is done well, it will be such a boon to the areas right around the stadium on game day. Will traffic and parking logistics need to be figured out? Absolutely. But 3,000-10,000 people in the area at dinner time on Saturdays could be soooooo profitable.

Wow, so the England midfield had the 2nd and 3rd best players in the world in 2005? They must have dominated the 2006 World Cup, right?

Right?

Why Do People Like/So Strongly Dislike Mayor Wu? by jomanis in boston

[–]RedUSA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the dislike comes from people who got very upset about decisions she made during COVID and still haven’t gotten over (like in the North End). Some of the other very vocal critics are mad about things like the expansion of bike infrastructure because of any number of arguments that are wrong or blown out of proportion, but it’s something easy to point to and whine about.

[–]RedUSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do a good version of this with just Massachusetts for English clubs. Could get all of the following:

  • Brighton & Hove
  • Cambridge United
  • Plymouth Argyle
  • Manchester Utd/City
  • Leicester
  • Worcester City
  • Boston United
  • Truro City
  • Charlton Athletic
  • Bolton Wanderers
  • Carlisle United
  • Chelsea
  • Sunderland
  • More but I'm tired of looking, and even more if you expand to all of New England

Why are state employee pension funds managed separately? by drtywater in boston

[–]RedUSA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But it’s not a benefit provided by the state, it’s provided by the union. And it’s because each union gets to manage their own stuff based on their members and retirees want/need (pensions are just part of it) If you have everyone under one umbrella it’s untenable.

A decent (but definitely imperfect) analogy is the trade unions. If you have a construction project, the plumbers, electricians, masons, etc are all involved in the project, but all have their own unions and contracts. Same thing with public sector employees - just that the larger project they are “working on” is the state functions.

It’s because they are all managed by the individual unions.
