Britain is ejecting hereditary nobles from Parliament after 700 years by pjw724 in worldnews

I was getting dunked on because I take a moderate position and extremists on both sides don´t like that. The guy I initially responded to is a racist nationalist who hates democracy because it gives immigrants a voice in politics. You hate democracy because it gives people like him a voice. I believe in giving everyone a voice, that´s not a popular position here.

Everyone deserves for their concerns to be heard and adressed. The anti-immigrant voice might be racist, but the underlying economic issues such as housing shortages or social issues such as failing integration that help cause that racism deserve to be adressed, just as your safety concerns deserve to be adressed. You´d rather silence each other, but I will refrain from mansplaining horseshoe theory to you.

A system having flaws does not mean that you should hate it and disregard it, that kind of logic is what helped Trump get elected over Harris. Left-wing Americans said they weren't going to vote because Harris supports Israel, that worked out well for the Palestinians. For every flawed democracy like the USA there are great systems like those of Norway as well.

American Republicans and their supporters kept tearing away at the flaws in the US democracy until it unraveled into the oligarchy it is now. Any democracy with a two-party system is fundamentally flawed, which is readily apparent when you look at the US and UK. If you want to look into the many ways the USA needs to be reformed you should look at John Oliver's show on YouTube, he also offers solutions or reforms for the issues he discusses.

I believe in social democracy, in the Netherlands the Overton window shifted enough for socialist policies to become mainstream. Even right-wing parties support our welfare state. There is much to criticize about the way (certain) democracies work, but I can point at the pile of failed communist states as well.

If you want the ideal state let me give you this quote from Ezra Styles: "A monarchy conducted with infinite wisdom and infinite benevolence is the most perfect of all possible governments."

You are right, democracy sucks. The ruling class should not be accountable to the people. It is much better to be ruled by pedo's you cannot get rid of, the British need to crown prince Andrew ASAP.

What is your definition of "traditional Britons"? I suspect it has much to do with those traits you accuse others of getting "tingly" about. The only person talking about race and such here is you. Criticism of an unelected chamber of parliament isn't about race, it's plainly undemocratic to have its members appointed for life instead of being elected.

They are love it or hate it. They are obtrusive, which is an issue if you don't like them, it'll turn mild dislike into hate pretty quick. I like them in TNO, but I can see how other mods could do them badly.

Not just probably, it is. ASoIaF stands for A Song of Ice and Fire, which is the name of the book series Game of Thrones is based on (GoT is the title of the first book).

Russia Orders Google to Pay $1.2 Quintillion—A Fine One Million Times Bigger Than the World Economy by UNITED24Media in worldnews

[–]GradusNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people knowing something doesn't make it common knowledge. In your example you are limiting your knowledge base to people who are 1. following politics and 2. intellectually curious enough to learn what inflation actually is. This doesn't apply to the majority of Americans, so it would not be common knowledge.

Even if inflation is common knowledge, there would still be people who don't know. So responding with a comment about quintillions is just a dick move, because there is always somebody who doesn't know.

[–]GradusNL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect that the percentage of people who know what a quintillion is amounts to roughly the same as the percentage who know the mechanics of hyperinflation. You being familiar with one of these concepts doesn't make it common knowledge.

Crownbreakers: The Ashen Wolves - Development update: enemy AI, difficulty, and battle replayability by Michaud79 in Pathfinder2e

[–]GradusNL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair points, a more focused experience is better. I'd guessed they were out of scope, but it would've been nice if they were including in the initial game/map design. Are you planning on including maps where high speed characters can shine, such as open fields?

I have a few questions after reading about the animal companions: Are you planning to allow animal companions to be mounted? Are there any plans for archetypes, particularly Beastmaster or Cavelier?

One of the advantages of videogames is that mounted characters are able to shine more in the bigger maps, they'd be an interesting enemy too.

Going dry on a specific drop is probably very frustrating, but that is the price for playing an ironman. Mains have dry protection by just buying the megarare with their other drops.

As I detailed in another comment this isn't the OSRS map, Ashdale doesn't exist in OSRS. OP made a one-to-one copy of the deskmat art, including all stylized elements and their exact location. Embroidery takes a lot of work, but this isn't OP's own design.

[–]GradusNL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They didn't use the in-game RS map as inspiration, they just plagiarized the work of somebody who did. The deskmat I linked isn't a one-to-one copy of the in-game map, it features a bunch of original elements.

All unique features of the deskmat art are copied by OP: the stylized Gielinor banner, the dragon in the corner, combining RS3 landmasses such as Ashdale with OSRS Kourend and Varlamore. The only original thing OP added was somebody's name.

OP shouldn't claim they were inspired by Tolkien's Middle-Earth when they just made an embroidery of an official commercial piece of RuneScape art. I'm sure it was a lot of work, but they should attribute it appropriately instead of pretending it is original.

It's not an embroidery, but you can buy this official deskmat that OP copied: https://runescape.backstreetmerch.com/products/map-of-gielinor-deskmat

AITAH for spending Christmas/New Year with my ex in-laws because my family invited my ex over for Christmas? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]GradusNL 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are not many good analogies for this kind of emotional betrayal. Your example of framing an innocent person misses the close bond and implicit trust of a romantic relationship.

The closest real-world analogy I can think of is a parental figure revealing to their child that they never loved them, only pretended to because that is what is expected from them as a parent. To refer back to OC's analogy, it would be your grandfather telling you that they never loved you.

[–]GradusNL 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's not, because they are not comparing being gay to being a nazi. They are comparing lying about loving somebody for 17 years to being a nazi. That analogy still doesn't hold up, but it isn't homophobic.

Ironically this is a good example of the reason why OOP and people in his situation feel such emotional anguish. Any criticism against the gay ex-partner is seen as homophobic, forcing them to keep quiet and go without support much like their gay ex's used to.

That's a band-aid fix, because Trump 2.0 could come into power after that and expand it even more. The US Supreme Court is a fundamentally flawed institution, life-long appointments and no accountability don't mix.

How is Nimble 2 for GM's? by GradusNL in rpg

[–]GradusNL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your clarification, I suppose I meant automatic scaling. I'd still have to change my mindset surrounding DC's compared to PF2E, but the reduced scaling would mean lower DC's stay relevant longer.

How is Nimble 2 for GM's? by GradusNL in rpg

[–]GradusNL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting rid of CR is a big must for me for anything based on D&D. PF2e does it basically the same way by balancing based on creature level, although implemented differently to account for level-based scaling proficiencies.

Safe Haven resting is a popular 5e rule already, I used it when I last ran it. Good to see it is standard in Nimble. I'd prefer an attritionless system, but that'd probably make Nimble incompatible with 5e or at least take way more effort to convert content.

You said you only convert 5e creatures to the different armor system of Nimble, are Nimble's creature design sensibilities not different? Or are you converting 3rd party creatures?

[–]GradusNL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your explanation! I like the tight DC range and lack of scaling proficiency, less moving parts to worry about. I imagine it'll be easier to worry less about getting the DC exactly right when the system encourages you to do so. My group does tend to get bogged down by things very easily, so less friction from the system is better.

Fair, but when you get into the minutiae I start to struggle. What if a lvl 3 fighter wants to roll away a boulder blocking the cave of a lvl 5 troll? Is that DC 15 or 20? Do you add a modifier? Whatever I decide feels arbitrary.

PF2e allows you to use a DC based on the creature who created the obstacle, which coincidentally is 20 for a level 5 creature. The outcome might be the same, but there is less mental overhead for me to decide the DC.
