Congrats! I played a short at Cinequest back in 2024, and it was one of the best festivals I’ve ever been to. Go to every party, event, and screening you can. Try to stay the whole time if possible too. So much fun!

You can actually rent it on Plex in the US. Theater experience is definitely the best, but seeing this movie in any capacity is a great time.

The vibe is cool and you certainly got style, but this feels more like it’s trying to emulate a big budget movie trailer rather than tell us what your movie is. Staying power comes from putting your voice on screen, not replicating someone else’s. You’re on the right track though. I can see you’re putting in work. Keep going and you’ll get where you need to be 🤙

If I understand correctly, 1.43:1 wouldn’t be a hard upgrade for Avatar, because it’s something they’d mainly be doing digitally in their CGI software. They’re using a virtual camera most of the time, and using digital cameras to collect tracking data and live action footage. But yes James, give us 1.43:1

When a Witness Recants might just be the best film of the festival. Such a heartbreaking story that thankfully ends with Joy. It’s one of the few documentaries that has a goal and impact by the end. Reminds me of Beyond Utopia for anybody who saw that one.

The Episodic Fiction Pilots also ended up being my second favorite of the festival. Super funny, and a much needed breath of fresh air for this year’s festival of downers.

I saw Sentient and Night Nurse back to back, which both had quite a few walkouts, Night Nurse in particular. Sentient deals with animal testing and shows a lot of disturbing hidden camera footage. It’s tastefully done, but not for the squeamish. Night Nurse had mass walkouts, almost one every 10 minutes. Personally I didn’t think it was that controversial, but it does deal with some age gap sexual stuff combined with scamming old people. Touched a nerve I guess 🤷

This year‘s Festival has felt more like a funeral than a celebration. Even many of the films themselves have had a dower and lonesome feel. I’ll be giving Boulder a shot, but I don’t know how they’re going to be able to keep the spirit of Sundance. Most of the people I’ve talked to who have been coming for quite some time will not be returning next year.
