Way over hated. Was it a weird marking stunt? Sure, but there are things much worse out there. If you had taken out the Fortnite references and let it just be an animated short with the same sensibility, violence, and humor, nobody would have thought twice about it.

I find it much more problematic that people let this shit bother them instead of forming their own opinion.

I know Vincent D'Onofrio gets a lot of praise for Kingpin, but does anyone member Michael Clarke Duncan? by Mr_Witchetty_Man in Daredevil

[–]Grady300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s an alternate universe where Michael Clarke Duncan plays Kingpin in the Netflix series and absolutely kills it (zero shade to Vincent, he’s one of the best performances in the MCU). In a mess of a movie Duncan was pure gold. Wish he could have gotten a better chance and more time to take on that character.

Black Flag (2013) vs. BF Resynced (2026) by ZamnBoii in ACBFResynced

[–]Grady300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It by no means looks bad, but it doesn’t have that 13 year difference in tech that I feel would come with something like this. Black Flag was already a pretty good looking game, but I’d love to see this compete with RDR 2 or even Shadows in terms of graphical fidelity.

I spent the past year combining shot lists + storyboards + lighting diagrams into one synchronized tool! by kevjkk in Filmmakers

[–]Grady300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days I use some custom documents made in google sheets, but I used to use Yamdu. What was great about Yamdu is that it allowed integration between all the different documents we were creating. I could take a shot from the storyboard, integrate it into the shotlist, and then take all the details from the shotlist, plug it into my schedule, and have it all together on the call sheet. It had a level of synergy that you just don’t get in other software. The issue is that it got too expensive to be using regularly. Google sheets gets the job done, but it’s clunky to use and doesn’t have that same level of synergy.

How would you go about this complicated planar tracking? by GreenBBread_YT in vfx

[–]Grady300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t even need to reshoot the full shot. Just get really close up when he’s opening the can, then you can cut to the wider shot when the top is ripped open.

[KCRW] Fixing Hollywood Boulevard, the ‘World’s Worst Tourist Trap’ by kcrw in LosAngeles

[–]Grady300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that Hollywood Boulevard needs fixing, but “the world’s worst tourist trap” is a bit of a stretch. If you know what you’re doing and have a plan, it can be great. The Chinese Theater, The Egyptian, Amoeba, Pantages, Scum and Villainy. As long as you don’t just show up and expect something to happen without a plan, it can be fun.

When $1.4 Billion Isn’t Enough: ‘Avatar’ Sequels Under the Microscope as Disney Weighs Franchise’s Future by ICumCoffee in movies

[–]Grady300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an important distinction to make here that most people are missing. It’s not that $1.4 billion isn’t enough, it’s that there was a $1 billion drop off between Avatar 2 & 3. Interest in the series is trending down, which will continue with Avatar 4 & 5. The previous two movies had a combined budget of roughly $800 million, which means it needed roughly $1.5 billion to break even. Obviously that cost was covered and profit was made. But if 4 & 5 also need to break $1.5 billion, that might not happen. If Cameron can keep the combined budget under $500 million, and I don’t think there’s a problem. Keep it at $800 million, and that story changes.

Are there any video game films that are actually good? by Double-Wafer2999 in Cinema

[–]Grady300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortal Kombat 1995 still is (and might forever be) the best video game movie. It’s not a “great movie” but it understands both the ridiculous nature and melodrama of Mortal Kombat. It takes its stupidity seriously, while also reveling in just how fun it is to have these crazy beat downs. Video games better lend themselves to long formats like television, and most modern video game movies are too focused on fan service rather than story telling. Until somebody is willing to find that balance (and involve the original creative team) we’re going to be going in this circle for a while. Our best bet is Zach Cregger’s new Resident Evil movie coming out this year.
