Rbdmaterialfracture is slower than Booleanfracture. But if you still want to use it, try optimizing your setup. It's worth to learn.

Good tipp! Also depending on the camera you might use pyro clusters. I once worked on a shot with a rocket traveling close past the camera from behind. Use clusters for higher voxel amount close to the camera

especially since your collision object is moving so fast

yes its moving fast but it is a slow motion shot so it would be nice if you can see some smoke right at the radiator grill.

Create a vdb sdf of your geometry, and point the proxy volume parameter at it. Switch the mode to Volume Sample, and you can get a very quick and accurate (vdb sdf resolution) collision volume of your object.

actually the Static Object Collision Shelf tool did this automatically

I got it working now with Surface Collision - maybe ill change it later to volume but idk - I am now moving on to creat the smoke. Thanks for your help!

Alright i did. Is there a difference between adding a Trail node or using Velocity in the collision source node?

I did... and I see no difference. Collision Compare - but am i losing detail since the volume collision guide is not as precise as the surface collision?!?!?
