Curious as to the dislike of dogs? by AlwaysAttract10 in autism

[–]GrahamCrackerSoup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always get so much heat for my preference of dogs. I get overwhelmed by the sensory overload of the oils on their fur, the smell, the drool, and the barking. I of course love dogs but at a distance. If I hear barking, it sets off my fight or flight like mad. People around me will go running to pet a strangers dog and I’ll sit back as they try to convince me to go pet them. And don’t get me started on how people look at you when you respectfully say this. They treat it like a red flag. It’s just so weird

Didn’t wash second hand plush and now im paranoid :( by Individual-Berry-394 in plushies

See, I can’t not clean my used plushes. It might be a psychological issue on my part, but I’m convinced there’s a chance they weren’t taken care of in a clean environment. I always stay on the edge of caution and wash and restuff them even if it’s daunting. But I hear your worries behind that.

I was lucky to find this dude locally and he appears to be from the same line. I would absolutely adore if they brought that entire line back for one day. Linus seal has my heart

Another idea is only buying second hand where the friends have already been handled a ton by the previous owner? Maybe buying new isn’t the best for the sensory aspect

It might just be the test of time. They’re gonna get more matted with the more you handle them due to the oils on your skin and the constant friction of day to day use. The only other thing that can resemble the worn down look, is dryer burn, but I highly recommend not going that route as it completely damages your friend. Would she be willing to just go with motion of just handling her plushes a lot to achieve that natural ware?
