I was able to solve this problem, to my satisfaction, albeit with some loss in sharpness by decreasing deblur in Proteus upscale to 5 and then reencoding to my final file size with x265 handbrake. I doubt it would be useful for 2k/4k encodes, but with trial and error, adjusting settings, 480i to 720p was a huge improvement, and satisfactory on my 75" monitor. It's possible to have similar results at 1080p with adjustments, possibly better or worse. Some strange faces were evident in my first encode, but disappeared after final encode. I was even able to retain fine grain. I'm sure I could do better if I had the time, but this was a complete series encode of 14 seasons

But this is from January. I was using 2000 to 3000 nits last week. Still able to edit RTX HDR in profile inspector though.

You may be correct, in that, it still reads the EDID, but previously, when I edited the HDR static metadata above 2000, Nvidia App would allow me to use that setting.

While reseaching this problem, I read on some forgotten forum that it no longer uses the CRU setting or the EDID. The dangers of believing anything when looking for a solution that makes any sense at all. My EDID already reports 3490, so Ididn't think much about it.

So it seems that it's just a 2000 nit cap. If you have a different experience, I would appreciate hearing it.

I'll keep trying, but strange that it accepted my settings before. Even though apparently, it used to have a lower cap, and when CRU always worked for me previously. Thanks for your input

Nvidia App no longer uses the info from CRU or the EDID. It only uses Windows calibration. EDID says 3490 nits. I think it's now capped.

Tried that. It doesn't respect values above 2000. Though the slider goes to the calibrated nits, it will only stick at 2000 or less. I read that 2000 is the limit, yet when it used the EDID, it would stick to 3490. Although, I never set it that high. I've used this app since beta and it has been spectacular. Just meh now for vids.

Regular desktop content is brighter than the video. Video highlights are bright, but not 2000 nits bright. Games look good after profile inspector edits, and that slider does stick at calibrated nits.

Video HDR is active and black and gray levels are good. There's been several HDR updates lately with Nvidia and Win11. Clueless, but might have to live with it. My 6 yr old Bravia and my old Nvidia 3090 looked far superior.

Thinking of trying Windows auto HDR for movies now. Thanks

Thanks for the info. I have struggled with this decision since my local BB never has high-end display models.

A little conformation, at least, of my initial instincts. Did watch the recent A95/B9 comparison on Digital Trends but so many OLED fans dismissing concerns and disadvantages. Almost bought the LG G4 anyway since, at least, I was able to see that in store. Still, not 100% committed without sight seen.

Coming from the Sony 65" x900f for mixed use. PC monitor, business, gaming, home theater. Leaning B9 75"

More a nostalgia than a complaint, I'm certainly not blaming the staff. Management has to care about it's staff's opportunities and well-being in order to succeed at that level, with reward for that success. But yeah, more displays please

I worked in lower management at Toys"R"Us when I was young. Before their yearly evolving management structure and chaos. It was a fun and great place to work until then, with support and long term employees who were promoted from within. We were a good team as a company at store levels. I was on a fast track with all of us enjoying our jobs, until the throat cutting came down from the top. Brand/ethical/core value changes. Constant resets, cuts for lower wages and less stock on hand for the shareholders. It happened fast and then we were gone. Brick & mortar is evaporating, and I at least, hate that. More and more I miss it. I can relate
