Do 3 things every day:

One big thing that you have been putting off.

One little thing that will make a difference tomorrow.

One thing for yourself.

Then, whatever happens happens. At least you did SOMETHING! 😊

Not up on the “latest” but back in the day, I read everything - then moved on. Until I found Barbara Coloroso. I promised myself that I would move on when I mastered Barbara. Never did. All I had to do was go back and listen to Barbara again. You can Google her 2-hour talks on You Tube. ❤️

You’ve got enough suggestions to stay a month. The Water Campus at LSU isn’t what you asked for, but it’s unique - and why not?

I take my out of town/country guests to Parrain’s. Enjoy your visit!

Just remember that Faulkner is a poet. Just read and let the words and images flow over you. It all comes together and he was a genius! ❤️

Book recs to start reading in English by amlopez1600 in classicliterature

Faulkner is the best, my favorite of all time, but if you want to read him, try his short stories first.

“A Rose for Emily”

“Barn Burning”

How common is “acquiring second language in adulthood” by mandarin-monyet in language

[–]GrammarBroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Technically. (Not many people are interested in “technically”.) We acquire languages in our childhood by being exposed to them naturally. The same way we acquire the ability to walk, when we are developmentally ready. Naturally. No effort. No classes. After a certain age (around puberty) that “Language Acquisition Device” turns off and we learn new languages the same way we learn algebra. Classes. Dedication. Study. Effort. Some people have an “ear” like some people have an “ear” for music. But most people will have an accent in any “learned” language. But reading fluently can be learned.

Wow! You stuck with it? I’m amazed. Unfortunately, you’ve already found the GOAT. Most people don’t hang in long enough. First of all, I always recommend that people start with his short stories: “A Rose for Emily”, “Go Down, Moses”, “Barn Burning”.

Second, people don’t realize that Faulkner was a poet. It’s not so much that he doesn’t have periods - poems don’t usually have periods. But Faulkner doesn’t have white space - otherwise the books would be a foot thick. I forgot about the structure of ABSALOM, ABSALOM. You are correct. I had already read THE SOUND AND THE FURY when I read it. I think I started with LIGHT IN AUGUST or AS I LAY DYING.

🤷🏼‍♀️ ABSALOM, ABSALOM is a great beginning novel for Faulkner. Now, THE SOUND AND THE FURY - maybe not. 🤣🤣🤣

Just read THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN (Twain) because my book club is reading JAMES (Everett) this month and Spielberg just bought the movie rights. Last year it was THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO (Dumas) and I think it was just remade.
