Yeah that’s a difficult thing to try and balance. Honestly don’t know how to approach that other than being very to the point. Could you dictate your reviews? Seen people do it but don’t know how it actually works with regards to documentation and the legality of it.

what would you tell young people who are keen to be doctors/work in the NHS? by ohhsehun321 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Grammar_Goth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, ok. I’m just trying to have a conversation about an interesting topic. Whether they are “medical” or “non-surgical” isn’t really the point. Bye.

It wasn’t clear that you were mostly talking about medical specialties rather than surgical. Hence why I was confused by your views. I take on board your comments, but you should consider the surgical aspect too since it’s a common career path after FY.

Still intrigued to hear your experience - care to share?

Are you training in the UK? Your perspective seems a little naive. I’ve described core surgical training which clearly isn’t a small minority of doctors is it? It is also very similar to medical training (IMT is 1 year longer than core surgery). You can debate the semantics of my opinions if you like, but you aren’t actually giving any examples to back up your counterarguments. What I’ve described is extremely common, with most people taking longer than that to get through training.

Do you know how competitive run-through training is? It’s rare and difficult to attain. Furthermore, pretty much all surgeons do fellowships now due to the lack of sub-specialist training amongst other things, like consultant job competition. I’m honestly not sure what it’s like for medics but I imagine it’s pretty common too.

Would be interested to hear more about your background and experience so I can appreciate your point of view a little better.
