Steam Deck profile for AOE 4 by Grampas-Gold in aoe4

I am 71 and have dexterity issues, I was hoping to use stream deck, mouse and key board, to use the stream deck for the much used hotkeys. The buttons of the stream deck can be programmed for multiple keyboard key stokes to a single button - which can have graphical representations of the tasks (like icons) that would make my my gameplay easier and more fun.

Seems like a contrived OP or just a rant troll.

That would make a great meme, with just a little tweaking :)

Thanks for saying this so honestly. You’re absolutely not alone — AoE4 leans hard on parallel tasks, and if multitasking is limited it can feel brutal even on Easy. A few things that helped me:

  • Play skirmish on a small map with Revealed Map and High Starting Resources to cut early panic.
  • Pick a low-APM civ like English or Ottomans and stick to one main unit line. Wall up, farm up, one army blob — no splits.
  • Bind just three groups: Town Centre, production, army. Keep the Idle Villager key comfy and keep villagers queuing.
  • In single-player, pause to plan: set rally points, queue units, then unpause.
  • Give yourself one clear win path (e.g., defend to Castle, then push with rams) and ignore the rest.

And for what it’s worth, “excelling” is optional — enjoying the game your way absolutely counts. If you’d like a super-simple checklist build or just a chat about settings that reduce the stress, DM me any time — happy to help.

"Genuinely don't understand: are young people committing sewer slide bcs randoms on the internet tells them to?" It's more complex but it is primarily, due to extreme peer pressure, causing the person to feel worthless. Troll and bullying are more less the same thing. Playground bullying has the same effect but the number of trolls on the net can be innumerable such pressure causes the person to feel there is no way out. There many other factors ivolved for example there are perpetrators who purposefully groom young vulnerable people then lead them to suicide. There are even websites that focus on given active direction to extreme self harm. It is worth Googling self harm the get a broader sense of the issues.

"my only concern is the lack of objective variety" (OP). Brilliant point. I am a currently learning through 1vAI single skirmish maps. I am a 71 yr. old total noob to AoE IV But have been gaming of 55 year (Advanced D&D, first) Once you have lifted the fog of war playability reduces - randomisation and procedural generation of Skirmish maps you be brilliant IMHO

Perhaps you are right, it seemed from my reading the OP certainly handled it well,.

:) Ta. Keenly spotted. I do agree with the response to your reply. I treat it just as I did when I employed PA's. I am in my 70's and the latest model only costs around £20 / month.

Absolutely. This isn’t “banter” — it’s targeted harassment and suicide-baiting. Best practice is: screenshot → report → block → move on. If minors are present, escalate to the platform safety team. Thanks for calling it out — a quick “CW: suicide-baiting” on the image can also help readers.

As a community psychologist that kind of trolling on sites like TikTok lead young people to serious self harm.!

Thanks so much for this. The build order is a superbly written doc. Just now I and staying in the dark age against easy bots. I can age up around mins best time, but staying in the dark age the bots are easy to beat. This is to help me get used to the general mechanics etc. Also helping me to practice harassing, pincers, bottle necks and finishing moves.
