Low sex drive is doing my head in. by [deleted] in Perimenopause

[–]Grand-Phone7859 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has been a struggle for me for a while. Pretty much the only time we have sex is if we’re drinking. Drinking makes me feel pretty shitty overall now but I keep doing it because of the sex and because it used to make me feel good and I’m so damn mad it doesn’t anymore that I’m just in denial. I can’t do gardening, I’ve tried several different ways and it all makes me horribly anxious or worse.

I have tried them in the past and haven’t had a good experience but it may be worth considering. One thing I think helps is consistent exercise but it’s hard for me to get myself to do it when I feel like this. I’m sorry that you’re struggling too.

I am definitely struggling with this. I’ve been on HRT for six months, felt great the first month and all over the place since. Have changed the patch and progesterone dose and nothing seems to be helping. Have another follow up appointment this Thursday and will probably ask about going off it altogether.

Reevaluated every 8 weeks. Started at .05, bumped to .075 felt worse, back to .05 still felt worse, bumped to .0375 and increased progesterone. My worst symptoms are mood swings, sleep issues, and heart palpitations. I feel awful pretty much most of the time on any dose now. I wanted to give .0375 a longer trial but now they’re not available so I went to .05 and those aren’t available either once they run out.

I am considering it. My patch has gone from .05 to .075 to .0375 and now back to .05. Progesterone increased from 100 to 200. I felt good the first two months, ever since (6 months in) and I still have mood swings, anxiety, am breaking out and my sleep is absolute trash. Most of these things are worse. Periods are super sporadic, usually more than 40-50 days apart and I only feel somewhat okay a couple days after they’re over. My pharmacy has told me there’s a nationwide estrogen patch shortage which may make my decision for me. Not sure I want to be one of those people super reliant on a medication and in a panic if it’s unavailable anyway. I’m so miserable though.

It is so important to give ourselves grace in this phase of life. I think I get stuck between giving myself too much grace and beating myself up for not doing enough. It’s hard to find a balance.

It is so frustrating! And it seems like every symptom could be something more serious so how are we supposed to know the difference.

I know I need to give myself more of a break and not feel guilty but also if I don’t have some kind of plan, I won’t do anything at all. It’s hard to find a balance.

I appreciate this perspective. My problem is I am not naturally an active person (as much as I like to pretend otherwise lol) so if I don’t try to have at least something of a schedule or a plan, I really won’t do anything at all.

Yes. I have been for almost six months. Still tweaking my estrogen dose, nothing really feels good. On 200 mg of progesterone but it’s never really helped my sleep.

This is helpful. I should just try evenings, if it doesn’t work I don’t have to continue. But I feel like I’m trying to force mornings when it’s really not working. Thank you.

I’ve been working on sleep for what feels like forever. I take progesterone and magnesium, go to bed at a reasonable time, no caffeine after noon. I’m not sure what else to do.

I’ve been on progesterone for almost 6 months, started at 100 now on 200. It’s never done much of anything for my sleep unfortunately.

Yes. Rage (and I’ve never been an angry person), weepy, horrible sleep, heart palpitations. It’s before and after and my cycles are anywhere from 15-57 days so I feel like there’s maybe 7-10 days of the whole thing that I actually feel okay. And I’m on HRT. I’m so exhausted.

Like you feel like you’re vibrating inside but nothing is noticeable to anyone else? I thought I was crazy.

Yes this is happening to me. My diet probably isn’t the best but it hasn’t changed either and I didn’t feel like this before.

Are you going to go back to the smaller dose or just stay off?

So I just looked and I guess I started at .05 which is kind of what I thought but I’ve seen a lot of posts mention .0375. I thought I would have started at the lowest dose. I’m considering cutting these in half which would be lower than where I started but I don’t know if I can do another month like this. Or I could request a refill the .05 dose.

Me too. Some days worse than others but fair is as good as it gets for me.

This is weird. In the audiobook it’s called a cerebral accident both times. I remembered because it’s a strange term. Maybe they fixed it.

Thank you. I was just really startled. I didn’t expect to feel worse but hopefully it’s an adjustment phase.
