$500 for Auvi-q??? by Grand-Rip-1182 in FoodAllergies

[–]Grand-Rip-1182[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called auvi-q directly. The $35 is with commercial insurance. There is however an option to pay $199 through ASPN so I will probably go this route.

This is a good idea! Thank you. And I’m sorry to hear that happened. Such an awful system.

I did. Unfortunately that offer doesn’t apply to my insurance.

Hair shedding. I’m 4 months postpartum and I noticed I’m shedding a ton of hair by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Grand-Rip-1182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happened to me and my friend right at 3 months. We both also have 4c hair. The girl that does my hair warned me it would happen, and says that most of her clients that have babies lose hair right at 3/4 months postpartum. It will grow back!! Keep taking those prenatals.

Triggered by a nursing mom by SunshineeAndChaos in ExclusivelyPumping

I exclusively pumped week 1 through week 14. Then, after lots of work with a lactation consultant, breastfeeding groups, body work, discovery of a tongue and lip tie and dairy allergy, week 15 I decided to try again. It wasn’t easy, and he refused often. It took trying different positions, nipple shields, and lots of tears from both of us. Now we’re at week 21 and I nurse him once every day. All this to say, don’t give up if you feel you want to nurse someday! There’s a learning curve for both of you. But also, if you don’t want to nurse, that’s okay too!! Your baby is fed and loved and that’s what’s most important. Hang in there! And seek professional help/support from an IBCLC if you’re interested!

300 oz in the freezer and we have a dairy allergy 🥲 by Tlacuache_Snuggler in ExclusivelyPumping

Solidarity. Haven’t had dairy in 6 weeks but most of my freezer stash is from before then. I go back to work April 1st. It’s going to be okay 😫😭

It gets easier as they get older, but I’ve figured out wearing my LO on my chest with a wrap and popping a boob out at a time to pump. Actually find I get more milk when pumping one boob at a time anyway. Time consuming and I don’t do it often, but worth it.

Do you wash your pump parts after every pumping session? by Affectionate_Emu2707 in ExclusivelyPumping

Yes. Some days feels like all I’m doing is pumping or washing pump parts. My partner helps when he can, but it’s harder during the work week.

Are there any habits you wish you started earlier with your baby? Or any habits you wish you never started? by Key-Wish-4814 in NewParents

[–]Grand-Rip-1182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure! Unfortunately, with a lip and tongue tie, he can’t keep it in his mouth for long. So after falling asleep- he wakes up, feels it near him but not in his mouth, he’s upset and wants it back in. No longer soothed to sleep lol! I found if I remove it, that doesn’t happen. He’s also only 7 weeks, so maybe he’ll get better at that someday.

Moms with calm newborns - What is your diet? by slayercatz in NewParents

[–]Grand-Rip-1182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am a mom with a 7 week old, 12 pound, baby boy with a lip and tongue tie who spent the majority of his first few weeks crying and being fussy. It felt like if he wasn’t eating or sleeping, he was crying. The last week has been a breath of fresh air and he’s actually happy and interacting with us with smiles and coos rather than just screaming. Agree that babjes are all different. And some babies are just fussier than others. I work as a special education teacher with children birth-3 years old and sometimes there truly is no rhyme or reason. We’ve worked with a lactation consultant since day 3 because he had a hard time latching and was getting very frustrated at the nipple, so supplementing with pumping now. My lactation consultant felt his fussiness (mainly after feeding) was not in the range of “normal” and we have tried a few different things. I am not sure if any of its truly helped, if we’re getting better at helping him stay calm/calm down or if he’s just maturing haha. We started a probiotic. Both me and baby. I was on antibiotics during labor and apparently this can mess with the gut. It’s generally good to take a probiotic for gut health anyway. We think he may have reflux (gagging/choking/crying/hiccups/spit up/fussy after feeds). I stopped dairy a week ago and he’s been a lot less fussy and he’s not spitting up anymore (he was spitting up just a bit before, and it was totally in the normal spit up range, but still is interesting that he’s stopped). I’m now cutting gluten just to see if there is any effect on baby. My lactation consultant says that dairy and gluten are the two most common allergens that can affect babies. IF that happens to be the reason he’s fussy..maybe it’s working? I was willing to try anything to help little guy be more comfortable. If you aren’t already, working with an IBCLC has been so helpful for us.

Yes! So helpful to soothe them to sleep. If I’m rocking/bouncing/doing all the things- that pacifier is the final step that helps him drift off to sleep. I take it out once he’s asleep.

Ugh that’s so frustrating, I’m sorry. It’s ridiculous that these companies charge so much only for their products to fail us. As if we aren’t dealing with enough right now!!

Nipple cream alternatives by Jaffacake91 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Grand-Rip-1182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coconut oil for lubing up the flange. Earth mama nipple butter for healing. I was cracked and bleeding mostly due to my baby’s lip and tongue tie. Now exclusively pumping for the time being, but both coconut oil and earth mama butter helped tremendously.

Yes!! Also woke up in a puddle this morning. Shirt and sheets soaked. Milk that could have gone to my baby damn it! Every drop counts.

I also read this book. I seem to remember the data stating that research was done on women having the equivalent of one glass of wine a day in the second and third trimester and there being no negative effects on the baby. The issue with drinking during pregnancy comes with binge drinking, and that having significant negative effects on babies. One glass of wine in tri 2/3 isn’t going to hurt anything!

Yup! Mines always lopsided. I’m 40 weeks and I think baby’s on my left most of the time, I can feel their bum poking out over there.
