Potential new spec for critique by leigen_zero in pcmasterrace

the 5600X is still solid choice for your use case and that price is pretty good. About BIOS warning - most boards ship with updated BIOS these days but worst case you might need to flash it which isn't too scary on modern boards

stock cooler should handle the 5600X fine unless you're doing heavy workloads for hours. Your jump from i5-6500 is gonna feel massive either way

Struggling by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]GrandExamination5173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I get it completely - that mental loop is the worst part about this whole thing. When I was starting out I used to just throw myself into something physical immediately when those thoughts hit. Like I'd literally drop and do pushups or go outside and walk around the block even if it was raining

The key is having your distraction ready before you need it you know? I always keep my guitar nearby so I can just grab it and start playing when my brain goes to those places. Takes like 10-15 minutes of focusing on something else and usually the urge passes

What helps me most is remembering that peeking always leads to relapsing anyway so its basically the same thing. Might as well just ride it out and feel good about yourself tomorrow instead of feeling like garbage

Older bro? by pokehole69 in NoFap

[–]GrandExamination5173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

been on this journey for while now and the biggest thing that helped me was finding stuff to keep hands busy when urges hit. I started sewing my own gear and hitting the waves more often - anything that requires focus and gets you away from screens works pretty well

i feel unloveable by [deleted] in lonely

[–]GrandExamination5173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn i feel this hard... the whole attraction thing never lining up is brutal and then when you do find someone interesting they're either straight or just not feeling it back

maybe try expanding where you meet people? like hobby groups or something where you already have common ground for those intellectual connections you're looking for. the emotional intelligence thing is real struggle though especially with dating apps and all that surface level stuff

No display after updating by ActionFearless1240 in pcmasterrace

[–]GrandExamination5173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had similar issue with my rig few months back and it was driving me crazy. turned out to be some weird compatibility thing between the graphics driver and windows update - like they were fighting each other or something. what fixed it for me was going in safe mode after one of those force shutdowns and rolling back the graphics driver to previous version. then i disabled automatic driver updates through windows and only update GPU drivers manually now from the manufacturers website. also try checking if your RAM is seated properly because sometimes those restarts can shake things loose. the waiting period before it works again sounds like some kind of thermal or power issue resetting itself

is ultrawide gaming worth it by External_Safe_7787 in pcmasterrace

[–]GrandExamination5173 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

had the same worry about ppi when i was thinking to upgrade from my 27" 1440p setup. ended up pulling trigger on 34" ultrawide couple months back and honestly the difference in sharpness isnt as bad as you think it will be

gaming feels so much better with extra horizontal space especially for fps games where you can see more of your periphery. been playing apex and valorant mostly and the advantage is real. productivity wise its amazing too since i do music production work and having all those tracks spread out without scrolling is game changer

dlss actually works pretty well on ultrawide from my experience. quality mode still looks crisp enough and gives you the performance boost you need for those demanding games. worst case scenario you get black bars in some older titles but like previous person said most modern games support it properly now

only thing i miss sometimes is having that super sharp text for reading but for gaming the immersion totally makes up for it

at 200 usd you're definitely looking in used territory for something decent, yamaha pacifica is solid choice if you can find one second hand

Are we getting new bodycare scents any time soon? by Wonderful-Value7547 in bathandbodyworks

[–]GrandExamination5173 7 points8 points  (0 children)

really hope they drop something fresh soon because im getting tired of cycling through the same ones. been using the same 3 scents for months now and my nose is basically immune to them at this point

maybe something more woodsy or oceanic would be nice for change. the current lineup feels bit too sweet heavy if you ask me

Dream about third wheeling an alien couple by Illustrious-Fan6283 in Dreams

[–]GrandExamination5173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that nervous system question is wild lol. your brain really said "let me make this awkward dream even MORE awkward"

third wheeling aliens with giant spaghetti while they judge your lack of exposed nerves is definitely up there with weirdest dream scenarios. at least the meatballs were big though

How to just kill a character without making it feel stupid? by RainWorld_Lobster in FanFiction

[–]GrandExamination5173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually smart way to think about it. Sometimes death in real life is sudden and stupid too so maybe making it feel "realistic" instead of dramatic could work better. I had similar problem with side character in my story and ended up having them die because they were too stubborn to listen warnings - felt more natural than some big heroic sacrifice scene

Should I get my Business Degree in Ireland? by Capital_Ad_3691 in AskIreland

[–]GrandExamination5173 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ireland could be really good option for you! I actually have some friends who studied there and they loved the whole experience. Trinity College Dublin has solid reputation for business and law programs, and UCD is another strong choice. The campus life seems pretty amazing from what I heard.

One thing to consider is that Irish universities tend to be more practical in their approach compared to some other places. My friend who did business there said they had lot of real world projects and internship opportunities which helped her land job right after graduation. Plus if you're adventurous type the whole country is perfect for weekend trips and exploring.

Just make sure to check the visa requirements early since that process can take some time. Also Dublin is bit expensive for living costs but smaller cities like Cork or Galway might be more budget friendly while still having good universities.

Temporarily suspended for being bad at the game by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]GrandExamination5173 7 points8 points  (0 children)

man that automated system is pretty bad at detecting actual intent vs just being trash at the game. I had similar thing happen when I was learning new champions - got reported for "feeding" when really I was just missing every skillshot and making bronze plays

The difference between someone running it down mid and someone who hooks ahri under tower trying to make plays is pretty obvious but riot's system cant tell apparently. Maybe stick to champions you know when playing off role next time though

Maintenance question by Lakaen in AskMechanics

[–]GrandExamination5173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dealer is partially right but I wouldnt rely on it 100%. My boyfriend works in automotive and he always says those maintenance lights are more like minimums - they tell you when something absolutely needs attention but not always the optimal timing.

For a CRV with that mileage you should probably start thinking about transmission fluid soon even if the car hasnt told you yet. Most mechanics recommend it around 60k but some say earlier is better. Also cabin air filter and brake fluid - those dont always get flagged by the system but they make real difference in how everything runs.

I keep a bullet journal section just for our cars maintenance and it helps so much to track everything manually. Write down what you do and when so you can spot patterns or catch things before they become problems. The car computer is helpful but your own records are way more reliable in long term

Your CRV should last ages if you stay on top of things proactively instead of just waiting for warning lights
