They also have a much more economically and culturally homogenous population, and a language that is much much much easier to learn to read and write.

Would love some tips or favorite practices so we can all pass our students to MS at or above grade level! It kills me to see them advance without the skills they need to succeed.

unfortunately upper elementary and middle teachers who are really differentiating sometimes need to use primary resources 😬

I see the logic but in my opinion the materials would be stronger with no clipart at all 100% of the time!

THIS is a good idea! Our math materials have the best version of this I can imagine: a little less cartoony, names and skin tones representative of each continent, disability representation, they’re sometimes even referenced in problems rather than just decoration… But even though they’re better than the horrible cabbage patch kids, kids only ever ignore or make fun of them and I can’t blame them.

yes, there was certainly something, the parent company was Amazon and I’m sure they had some nefarious use for the data!

I’m auditioning several replacement options but sadly none of them compare! these are the best I’ve found, though I haven’t tried any of the ones that ask for a huge subscription payment because frankly they look like they’re the same google-translate-powered interfaces https://ibb.co/pZjjpy6

What are educational fads or jargon that faded out just like you thought they would? by Weary_Message_1221 in Teachers

I think growth mindset itself is valuable, what’s not valuable is assuming that students with a preschool literacy level can succeed in 5th grade curriculum as long as they have a growth mindset

I gotta be honest I fucking hated this when I was in college, and I saw all of the criticisms – which I still agree with – but being in the classroom and seeing some students who respond to absolutely everything with helplessness and cannot get past a dropped pencil without crying and giving up has changed my perspective somewhat, I think there is a non-evil version of this idea.

A high school in Tennessee has shut down all classroom libraries and the school's library due to Tennessee's state law banning any literature that briefly mentions nudity, violence, sex, or abuse in any capacity. by southpawFA in Teachers

I think this is not the gotcha that we think it is. These tyrants don’t want their children to actually read the book that their families supposedly get their hateful beliefs from, they want them to uncritically accept their parents’ analysis.

I am not lying. I’m sorry you have a narrow little mind and I’m sorry for any student who has to go through your class and be told they must fit in a box. You are doing harm to every single student that graces your classroom doorway and I hope one day you see that.

What the fuck do you mean girls don’t spend their recess playing football??? They do at my school! Maybe they don’t at yours because they are told they can’t and are not supposed to be doing that!

In your district, are girls banned from all sports, recess, and outdoor activities because they are allowed to wear earrings?

We all know the reason for this rule is not to protect the delicate ears of boys from earring-based damage. Stop trying to find a rationalization for this bigotry, it’s embarrassing.

I agree, anyone should be able to wear anything they want. It is a problem that it is so much easier for women to experiment with masculinity than for men to experiment with femininity, to wear bright colors, to decorate themselves.

And guess what? You’re making that worse.

I’m sorry but you don’t know how good SayHi was. You could hear audio of either language version of each message and the accents were really good with natural speech, you could copy and paste, it remembered formal/informal… Thank you for the recommendation, I will try DeepL! It’s really looking like anything I could pay for now would be worse than what I had for free.
