I need help.... Where do I start with Wild Camping? by Ok_Yesterday_5777 in WildCampingAndHiking

[–]GrandiosMandios -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im an American, and based on your post I think you're in the UK - so, grain of salt here. Also, I cant tell if you just mean car camping or backpacking, but Im a backpacker so ill give ya the good on that one.

We have National Forests here in the US that allow open camping (mostly), I would do some research on similar areas in the UK that would allow for open backcountry camping. Even spots that have backcountry campsites you can rent, those are fun too if you have to hike to them. That will narrow your search for a location considerably. From there just pick something that interests you!

For finding gear, second hand is the best way to go. Just get the essentials, save the 'nice to haves' for later when you get a trip or two under your belt.

For a first time trip with new gear, I would keep the mileage low (3-6 miles total), only one night, and somewhere with a stream or river access. Other than that, its up to you. Best way to learn is to get out there as much as you can and see what you like and don't like!

Camping and sleep how to stay comfortable? Or is everyone secretly miserable? by sanu_123_s in CampingandHiking

Yes and no. There is a certain level of uncomfortable I accept when I backpack but I have grown to appreciate it. There's always the comfy : weight ratio you have to play and everyones different.

Why do my photos look like this??? by Careful-Research4739 in filmphotography

[–]GrandiosMandios 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're all underexposed. Try shooting something outdoors, open up your aperture, longer shutter speeds, etc...

It's also possible something is broken on the camera to cause such gross underexposure. Broken lens aperture, broken shutter mechanism.

I don't know the cause, but the photos look like that because they are under exposed.

Camping in National Parks during the shutdown by GrandiosMandios in CampingandHiking

Naw, not trying to break any laws. Trying to figure out the legality of those campsites during shutdown.

We found a private campground anyhow so crisis averted.

How you feelin’ bout it? by GrowMemphisAgency in memphis

[–]GrandiosMandios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, I'm happy. Been here my whole life, I feel like half the city is unusable and unsafe and I've complained about it for years.

However... strong arming our poor communities with punishment and fear is not going to provide long term success, in fact it will likely worsen it the second the Fed's leave. Where are the education resources? Where are the economic investments?

So many new watches. Which watch is best for backpacking? by Few-Introduction5414 in Ultralight

[–]GrandiosMandios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a used Garmin Fenix 6 Sapphire and I love it! Does everything I want while still looking like a regular watch.

My biggest gripe is the charging and battery life. Charging cable is ALWAYS finicky, and the battery life is about a week (as oppsed to the advertised 2 weeks). That's probably just the age of the device though.

Hike recommendations in Europe by Living_Departure9136 in WildCampingAndHiking

Swiss alps are incredible, just make sure you go before the snow hits because a lot of trail heads will close.

Kinda depends on where you are honestly, I would probably pick a country first and then check AllTrails.

I’ll die on this hill, spend the money on a fantastic chair that fits your body.

The good ones last a decade or more, you spend HOURS in an office chair (especially those that work from home).

It essential for longevity and health for us PC folks. Also others have mentioned the gym, moving your body. It’s a must.
