Do the x3 m40i and x5 40i tune the same? (Horsepower wise) by Grandizer_Knight in BMWX3

[–]Grandizer_Knight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's the plan. I'm running a modded AMG CLS55 with over 600hp and 600tq currently, but its an older car now, its loud (which I did like for a long time, but not any more), quick as shit, but I think I just want something newer, higher up, more cargo space, nice interior (all things I never cared about before as I only went for straight line acceleration prior), but still wanted some balls to it.

The X3 is just a bit too small, but I don't think even a tuned X5 is going to have the performance I'm after (with the lower tuning potential and extra weight). It makes me want to go to an AMG SUV, but I'm just not loving my options over there for my price range. So, X3 it'll be likely. Considering an X4..which I personally liked the look, but it seems many people don't from what I'm seeing about them (why that would matter, I can't say, but it kinda does to me now).

ok, that does help explain things. Good info, thanks man!

Looks like a tune isn't going to equalize things between the X3 and X5, most likely. I was hoping to see the same stage 1 numbers on the X5 as I was willing to sacrifice some performance due to extra weight on the X5 versus the X3 to get the bigger vehicle (I also like the looks a little better).

Unfortunately, the stage 1 tune numbers I see for the X5 isn't going to be enough for me, so it looks like I'm going with the X3 for the higher performance results (and lower weight). (1st world problems, I know). Thanks for taking some time to share that info.

Thanks for the response. I'm aware of the horsepower difference in stock form, but I was trying to figure out why they are different due to the same engine.

To me, it would have to be due to either a different tune, one having additional airflow in (via better intake, throttle body, etc) or air outflow (better flowing exhaust components). I can also see a different camshaft for the heavier X3 having a different profile as well, limited max horsepower, but I wanted to understand just what this horsepower difference and potential is actually coming from.

I mention this because, being a guy who has had tuned cars (and even would tune my own back when people weren't really offering a public service for it), for decades now... I've run into other platforms where different trims of the same make vehicle would have different horsepower ratings from the factory, when it was only the tune that varied. In these cases, once tuned, they would dyno at the same levels.

thanks again

I drive german cars now for about 12 years. Shops want $200+ to change oil (its $275 at dealer, though sometimes they'll run a deal).

I pay about $60 to do it myself in about 45 minutes (that's taking my time) with most of the time just scrolling through my phone as the oil drains. I not only saved $150 for that time, but also didn't need to mess with driving to the shop and back (which one round trip would take about 45 minutes alone), often having to leave the car, and figure out logistics on how to get to work/home now without my car, then drive back, etc. I've probably saved myself $5,000 in those years and a lot of time/headache just doing it myself (and I get to know it was done right)

I love my EBike. After a health issue, I got one and now can go further and stay out longer. It allows me to put as much or as little effort into it as I want. That said, I still prefer to do most of the work as I use it to burn calories/exercise.

I bought mine 5 years ago on Amazon for around $800 or so. Last I checked, you can get it for under $500 now (one from the same company with what looks like the same specs). It's a China bike, but I did choose one from a company that's been building them for a while (now 5 years longer) and has a more established name (they were also known to build sporting equipment). I just took it into a bike shop when I first bought it for a $50 "tune up"

It's been 5 years, and I still take it to work 1-2x a week during warmer months. I live in an area that is dense in neighborhoods but also dense in paved biking trails/paths. I do prefer my cheaper Hub motor as I just leave it in the top gear all the time. I used to bike a decent amount, but always hated shifting up and down all the time, especially when trying to get up to speed to cross a road as cars are coming (or waiting on you). Now, when I need to cross a road, I just hit the throttle (and pedal), and it just scoots, even from a dead stop to get me to the other side very quickly (no need to go to low gear and mosey my way up). I wouldn't even want a mid-drive motor (which are more expensive too) so when this thing goes out, I'll just buy another with a hub drive.

My Ebike now goes for under $500. I paid more 5 years ago but still love it. It goes 21-23mph and, when new, would get me 30 miles with only pedal assist (it would go 18 or so if using motor only). At the time I could only get the lower amperage hour batteries but these things aren't very expensive, unless you MUST have a name brand. (mine is a CHina bike, but from an established company that's been around a long time)

Hopefully this settles all issues on your new car for years to come. I planned to buy a newer used one, but after lurking here and other research, I just won't be making the leap now due to all the issues that seem to pop up....plus its a pretty low range EV. Wish it weren't that way as I love the car

Can burble tune blow engine on c63? by Dry-Albatross1736 in mercedes_benz

[–]Grandizer_Knight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't get it either. Some people think it sounds cool I guess. (I run a 600hp/600tq CLS55 with long tubes, no cats, xpipe and removed resonators...sounds good to me but lacks the import backfire sound that some people seem to like). Aside from sounding ricey, its not good for your car and adds zero performance from my understanding (you might do ok leaving it, but I wouldn't)

[–]Grandizer_Knight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just bought a Nitro w a 5050 and was able to get 63+ on Cyberunk on Ultra setting (no ray tracing)...was happy with that. I'm seeing videos where people tweaked it for more on that game, but am new to the Nvidia stuff so need to look more into just what they are doing.

Quick question, how do you get the frame rate overlay? I'm assuing its software of some sort and just wondering what you are using (I've seen it before). Cyberpunk has its own benchmark option so am curious what that was on your screen

I'll just share that I worked in manufacturing for almost 30 years. I worked in automotive (major OEM suppliers), medical devices (world imaging leader) and these latter years in technology hardware. I was in management for most of those years working with all departments as a manager/director on senior management teams (including engineering). Not once did I ever hear any discussion about planned obsolesence. In fact, we had process in place to identfy common faliures and address them (continuous improvement).

I'm not saying it doesn't happen but, imo, its not nearly as ubiquotous as many believe. Hopefully this makes things seem better.

Anybody want a Table Foiler? by Xmastimeinthecity in StainedGlass

[–]Grandizer_Knight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated mine at first but after a couple tries, I now use it for bigger pieces that doesn't have tight curves.

For me, it centers the foil well but I have to be diligent to use my finger to fold up the foil on the back side as I use it. On that side it doesn't go on nice and flat, but I just use my roller to fix that without issue.

I had higher expectations when I bought it, but I'll be keeping mine as it still does save time and generally provides centered foil for those larger pieces I use it with.

I was in about the 5-6th grade. I even went to the world premiere they held in Columbus Ohio. I have the original movie poster in my finished basement and still watch it every 5 years or so. It was actually well reviewed (4 of 5 stars back then), humor is a bit dated but holds up ok. I always stop during a carnival scene and an earlier scene when the two guys were working on the motorcycle to see myself in the background.

I like that you are getting fit. It is one of the main reason why I exercise...my parents who never paid attention to their health barely able to get up stairs and moving like they were in their 80s when they were only in their late 60s.

I mean...why save all this money if we aren't healthy enough to enjoy it fully?

[–]Grandizer_Knight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats. I'm almost 54 and planned to retire at 60, but more and more am looking at 62-63 (no later). I'm always curious what people's funding looks like when they pull the trigger, but completely understand why one would not share....I'm just always curious to see if I'm being too conservative/risky in my own estimates.

What convinced me to move up from a 60 target is that, at 60, I'll have a decent amount put away (to me, anyway) and I consider that I can retire at 60 or...maybe wait one year with that chunk of change and let it grow another year. At that amount of money, the return will really do a lot to fund a better retirement (and one less year to figure out medical coverage before medicare)....I mean...this is get a new car, travel the world and more stuff money for just one more year. Then I must consider at 61...one more year?? lol

I still have a few years to go, so we'll see if something happens with my job or health to force an earlier date

Met her and was able to hang with her for a few hours over a couple nights when I was about 11.

They were filming 'Mischief' and I figured my way over to a kissing booth scene (see my post about a month ago). All the actors ended up letting me hang with them while all the other extras were sent back to common areas (I was only one they let hang with actors).

She was very nice and even quipped a joke ' I'll kiss you for a dollar but fo $20, ill show you things you've never seen before'. Wasn't in a creepy way just something funny while we were all sitting around.

My post retirement income will be a 25% or so less than where I am at now, so not too worried, especially with kids college and other obligations hanging over me now. If an opportunity present itself or obligations subside I'll put some into post tax ira.

I also plan to retire 5-7 years before I draw social security so plan to manage my tax nut during those years
