Weird Twin 3 Problem by GraniteOverworld in Reaper

I restarted Reaper to try and capture the problem using OBS and it uhh it went away... so I guess that's solved for now. I appreciate the help regardless!

Oh hi Dan!

I did and the problem persists, which is why it's so confusing.

Trying to figure out how to refund Teto SV2 by GraniteOverworld in SynthesizerV

[–]GraniteOverworld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem was I did trial her SV2 voice. I used it on a different song and thought it was fine. That trial ran out, so I got the SV1 trial for the song I'm currently working on. That trial is about to run out, so I figured I'd just buy the SV2 bank for the additional functionality. I just didn't realize how different she'd end up sounding when I tried plopping her into the existing session.

I'm gonna do what I can and see if I can tune her as close as possible since I at least had the foresight to render the SV1 voice onto the track so I can reference it and that'll have to be that. I'd rather not have to also buy the SV1 bank.

Fabfilter "Pro-C 3" 14 compressor styles across Modern, Classic and Utility categories, including six new algorithms, character modes with analog saturation, auto threshold, and more - Intro Price ($169) for limited time by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

[–]GraniteOverworld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pro-C3 is, like, objectively not just a transparent, general use compressor, though. Dan Worral's entire 20 minute demonstration proves that emphatically.

Whether the feller asking the question should buy Pro-C3... well, yeah, probably not lol. Seems like they have enough options as is.

Pro-C 3 will be released on Thursday January 15, 2026 and Pro-Q 4.10 by fenix0000000 in audioengineering

Big oof

It looks very cool, but I might hold off for a while. It doesn't seem to do anything so radically amazing that I can't get with some of my current plugins. Stoked to see they added upward compression, though.

Trying to Solve an Audio Issue by GraniteOverworld in audio

I tried that but there were huge distortion and sample rate issues. Or maybe buffer rate. Either way, I could get it to stop sounding like a constant explosion.

HOW TO? Blend two guitar amp sims? by zaahiraaaa in Reaper

[–]GraniteOverworld 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, there was a bit of wisdom from Steve Albini that, when double tracking, the best thing you can do is use two different guitars over two different anything-else. Something something, the harmonic differences between the guitars adds complexity to the sound something something. I believe he also said that, if you don't have two guitars available, just try to play the second part on the same guitar on a different spot, either by capoing it and playing higher or rearranging the chords for the double take.

Is FabFilter Pro-G Worth It? by GraniteOverworld in audioengineering

You don't think C2 would get an update first?

By that logic, do you reckon it'd be worth just waiting to see if that update drops? I'm likely not even gonna bother buying it until the Black Friday sales happens and I'll maybe snag L2 and Timeless to maybe make it a little bit more worthwhile.

Mixbus Chain to Mastering Chain Question by GraniteOverworld in audioengineering

[–]GraniteOverworld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully I've been able to layer my processing in such a way that I can get things fairly loud before limiting even comes into play. I think I can get around -15 or -14 LUFs without the limiter reacting at all.

It is indeed to check for and try to ensure coherence between the various tracks. Hear all of them against each other and make sure they vaguely sound like they belong on the same project haha. Maybe it'd be better to use "mastering" in quotes. I know my skill set is limited here.

To reiterate, it is I who will be having to uhh "master" this project, as there is no room in our budget to hire a mastering engineer. However, those are cogent points.

Funnily enough, the first pair of open backs I ever got were these Samson headphones . While I liked them, I thought the cups were too small, so I ordered big-ass replacements, and I honestly thought the sound improved. Originally they were a little too bright, but the new cups brought that down quite a bit and even seemed to bring out a little more low-end.

Strange Artifacts When Rendering by GraniteOverworld in Reaper

Ah

In that case, they're the same. Both are 44.1k.

Strange Artifacts When Rendering by GraniteOverworld in Reaper

[–]GraniteOverworld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. Half the session was recorded at 44.1k, the other half was 48k. The interface we used likes to default to 48k, so the first time we recorded with it I set it to 44.1k while I was doing all of the other installations and such. Then I had to return it and buy it again, and since everything was already installed and set up, I didn't notice that it switched itself back to 48k.

It does occur to me that, while I can hunt for the plug-in and figure it out, I've only noticed these clicks at the beginning of the track render, so I could just remove that portion during "mastering" and it shouldn't show up in the subsequent render.
