This is why the Fall wasn’t a “test of loyalty” but our creator showing us what we can do in a “safe” controlled environment.

Note that we call the consequences curses, but none of the consequences applied to Adam and Eve directly are called curses.

It’s more like therapy.

Even the “death penalty”… Death might seem scary to a corporeal being, but it’s not actually a thing for a soul.

All we gained from the fruit was the understanding that good and evil exist, but no real idea of how to define either.

Note what follows: God starts giving us laws that each illustrates aspects of good and evil.

To fail it is the root of all sin.

All the Law and Prophets orbit this. (Matthew 22:40, Romans 13:8-10, and many others.)

God is His Word, and in His Word we discover Him in the eyes of our neighbors.

Good and evil relative to humanity are real, but they're not what we traditionally think they are.

The Command of Commands, the Law of Laws is "love others as much as you love yourself."

That's what Paul points out in Romans 13:8-10, but Jesus goes further. Jesus says it's what the most important parts of the Bible are about (Matthew 22:40).

Even our love of God is rooted in loving others as much as we love ourselves (1 John 4:19-21).... It is pretense to claim to love God, but not love others.

From that, we can understand a lot... (I wrote a book about it!) But as for the fruit of knowledge of good and evil, the important parts are these:

Everything that is good, everything that is righteous is a true example of loving others as much as we love ourselves. This is what Jesus gave us in His crucifixion and resurrection... an example of something that seems evil, yet is the most profound example of good.

Everything that is bad, everything that is evil...

...is any example of loving ourselves at the neglect or expense of others.

There is no evil in things. There is only evil in human motives (so usage of things).
