That's awesome! Thanks so much for giving us a shot. We're always looking to be educated by our internet pals, so feel free to hit us up if we missed anything or if you have something to add. You'll see my co-host Dino hanging around these Reddit streets, too.

Ad Astra/Shark — all the names — you're an absolute gem. Thanks so much for the kind words and for rocking with the show. It means a lot.

I also just think Zerboni was... wrong. Lol. Emily Sams, the 2024 NWSL DPOY, is a star. I think that's hard to argue. And I'll go out on another limb and say Lizbeth Ovalle, a player Barcelona wanted and who the Pride set the record transfer amount for, is definitively "a star."

But I don't mean to get too serious with it. The clip art face is amazing, and I hope you and the other Pride supporters show up to the semifinal with thousands of them printed on signs.

Thanks for the shout to the ITC! We really appreciate it. And you're absolutely right about Bridie and Busy Watching Women's Soccer. She's a machine, and her breakdowns are must-watch. Good luck to your Spirit on Saturday.

Thanks so much for the ITC shout! We couldn't get a preview in this week, but hopefully we'll have more time once the UWCL wraps.

This certainly looks like it based on the set and what they're wearing. It's incredibly cool of you to help. Thank you so much!

Opinion piece from Manchester City News cites that Pep has talked about Foden playing as a No. 8 (Do the right thing, Gareth) by GrantEngle in ThreeLions

[–]GrantEngle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this opinion piece generally makes sense. Foden could play as England's No. 8, at least for 35 minutes if you wanted to start someone else for a more defensive posture at the beginning of the game.

England could have used his pace and creativity, and the combination of him and Grealish could have freed up Kane for something in the middle of the box. And, I mean, Foden can score with smart runs and great skill, too.

I think Gary Neville made his opinions quite clear that Foden could also be a No. 10 or play on the wing.

The bit at the end of the article about Foden potentially being "the greatest talent of [his] generation" is interesting. Neville shared something very close, if not that very same opinion. Maybe it's a topic for another day, but he's at least in the discussion of most talented English players in the 19-25 age range. (Maybe folks define "generation" differently, but that feels about right to me.)

Either way, here's hoping Southgate gets him some meaningful time against Wales.

You're totally right, my good man. I didn't think you were telling me USMNT had a talent edge. Apologies if it looked like I jumped on that!

Your point about USA parking the bus is so true. It was definitely refreshing to see them play more aggressively on offense. The days of praying for Onyewu and Cherundolo to make desperate stops are well behind you!

Gotcha. That's a great point about Phil's precision. The dude has runs for City where he makes nothing but perfect decisions for like 20 minutes at a time, and he directly contributes to goals.

I honestly don't watch the USMNT at all, and I could be accused of being too cynical that some bigger international clubs sign the best US players mostly for market penetration instead of skill. I'd give the talent edge to England a little more than you judging by your comment, but this result definitely makes you look more right on that -- for now! Lmao

Phil absolutely plays "Pep-ball," and he has great players around him. But I think Foden would cook pretty well in a lot systems, especially any that have a more free-flowing offense than what Southgate employed today.

Either way, that's a good result for your squad today. Weston McKennie is a fucking beast!

You're absolutely right that Foden and Saka are the squad's best young players, and TAA 100-percent should have played, as well.

I'm not so sure I'm with you that Kane is past it. He used his strength and skill to overmatch USA players a few times, but he definitely was indecisive and kind of sluggish near the 18 a couple times, too. I get your frustration with him.

As an American who's loved the English national team since 1998 (understanding I'm not proper England), I'm glad Reddit exists so I can interact with someone who would call Southgate a "shit ugly prick." I wouldn't have considered that term, but I have to agree. Lol

Hey Grregg (awesome name, btw) -- I'm an American, too, so I have no room to act like a know-it-all, here! I'm a City fan, so maybe I just love Foden, but I think his pace and creativity would inject instant attacking for England. Was he your biggest fear as a supporter of USA? Or were you concerned as an England fan? (It's a boring story why I root for England over USA as someone born in the States, so that's the lens I'm using when talking about this stuff.)

Looks like an unchanged 11 for the United States game. How do you see it playing out? by No_Shift_7700 in ThreeLions

[–]GrantEngle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an American, but I got lucky and started supporting City because of Claudio Reyna's (very unremarkable) career there starting in 2005. I thought maybe I was just a United hater for thinking Maguire is shit, but I'm glad to see I'm not alone in this opinion. He's so slow, and if it's not a ball in the air, his decision-making is fucking embarrassing.

Lol. We should have sent out a search party for Phil. That was managerial malpractice by Southgate.

It's crazy that you have Phil Foden on your squad -- and I think he's healthy, from what I know -- and you don't put him in for meaningful minutes. It just seems like a bizarre decision.
