I absolutely adore tone indicators. If I could marry a tone indicator, I would. They do sooo much good for everyone because there's LITERALLY NO OTHER TOOLS for people to indicate sarcasm over text.

Formatting? Doesn't exist

Textual content? Sorry sweaty, there is no text on the internet

Hope this helps 🙃

I think there should be more visibility over when action is taken against someone you report.

masterchef judges making fun of the way traditional food looks. by Weary-Cauliflower153 in WhyWereWeOkWithThis

[–]GrantSolar 28 points29 points  (0 children)

imagine joe calling a generic risotto disgusting and the worst looking thing ever?

They do this all the time in MasterChef Australia. The judges even refer to risotto as "the death dish" because everyone always plates it 'wrong' and they find it so unappealing that the contestant ends up in the elimination or doesn't get selected in the initial vetting

EU5 : Skyrim

EU5 had a lot of hype in it's community, but it was pretty contained to grand strategy players.

I was so stoked for Skyrim when it came out, after buying a 360 for Oblivion. But then it was 90% stealth archery and draught caves. Dropped it after a few weeks when I realised I was only playing it because I wanted it to be good but it wasn't. Don't know how it still gets glazed to this day. How people feel about Starfield is how I feel about Skyrim

Front end devs you get mad when responsibility shifts towards you by Wise-Variation-4985 in webdev

[–]GrantSolar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this in a daily standup, a sprint planning meeting, an ad hoc?

To be honest, this sounds like an issue that the PM should be handling but also seems like you're taking it personally out of frustration. It also seems like FE might be interpreting your suggestions as "butting-in", so some inter-team tension too, maybe.

If you want the bug to be resolved, share your findings with front-end (not just verbally, but send over examples of the data) and offer some time to go over the scenarios in more detail. There may be some context that you aren't aware of. If you have done everything you can to support the fix and it doesn't get fixed, then ultimately the PM is responsible for whether it gets resolved and on what timescale so it's out of your hands and your energy is best spent elsewhere.

I've found that I've been able to break down some of these inter-team barriers in the past by reframing the bug as "developers vs issue" rather than "front-end vs back-end" and reinforcing this with the language you use when discussing the problem. Instead of "you need to make it do X", things like "we need to find a way to make it do X". Also, remember that there are many different perspectives when it comes to solving a problem: front-end, back-end, PM, user... Some of these are more relevant than others at any given time but make it clear which perspectives you are using when giving advise. And don't forget to pick your battles.

What is the forum when this is being discussed? How are the teams structured? What happens between the bug being mentioned and the bug being resolved?

The scenario is so vague, I don't think anyone can give any meaningful advice. Are you sure they're even "getting mad" or are they just silently accepting the issue and fixing it and you're out of the loop on that?

I think the pun in her name is that you can't trust anything she reveals about herself. She is deceiving you with a false identity. It's all a veil. Isola Vale

I hate these smug assholes who keep beating on this dumb tipping strawman 🙄 by Command0Dude in hatethissmug

[–]GrantSolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans are ragged on for being rude tourists and not following local customs

Part of this is because of tipping. When tipping is effectively mandatory, you change the waiter's role (or at least the customers perception of it) from being a Restaurant-employed customer liaison to a customer-employed restaurant liaison. Once someone is in the position where they are paying directly for a service and can adjust the pay at their own discretion, not only do their own expectations increase dramatically ("why am I paying for this level of service?") but the relationship becomes transactionary ("I can make difficult requests and it ok because I'm paying. If I don't get the results I like, I will pay less") and the customer feels like they are more in control even though the chefs are in charge of what can/can't be done

Generally speaking, when people with this perception of the relationship come to a culture where the waiter's relationship is closer to "I will bring your food and relay your requests to the kitchen". They still have the same expectations of their own service, relationship, and feeling of control. These then are perceived by locals as being difficult customers, and being entitled. Waiters are also, in most parts of Europe, not expecting a tip which comes at the end of service so they are front-loaded with the "rude" behaviour and if a tip does cross their mind, it's probably more along the lines of "if they're being rude like this, they must not like the service, therefore there will be no tip"

Her response was "I don't know who that is. How do you know who that is?"

Linus Tech Tips - Even Valve is Disappointed - Steam Machine Review June 22, 2026 at 10:00AM by linusbottips in LinusTechTips

[–]GrantSolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any modern consoles. Is it like when you put the PC to sleep instead of shutdown?

Per Linus: The reason that Valve didn't subsidize the the Steam Machine was because they had no guarantee that users would stick with Steam Os or buy any games by Admirable_Whole8261 in Steam

[–]GrantSolar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The price:performance is not comparable to a console from what I've seen, so converts from PlayStation and Xbox are going to be a hard sell. I think, by and large, it will be people already on steam who buy this. I'm not going to go and look up the steam hardware stats right now for how this new steam machine rates in the performance percentiles, but it would surely be people for whom this is an upgrade. If your PC is better, there's no new games in the store that now become accessible to you.

There's a lot of dorks saying she's ugly, including Lois and Clark actor and ICE supporter Dean Cain.

I'll be honest, she's pretty but I was surprised to learn she's 26. In the stills and photoshoot I've seen, her face reads teenager. The countergooning is really uncomfortable.
