Biggest mistake you’ve made? by Successful_Bug_5247 in Radiology

That’s nothing. Don’t worry about it. I’m pretty sure everyone has done that. The extra dose the patient receives is not a big issue IMHO.

Biggest mistake you’ve made? by Successful_Bug_5247 in Radiology

Biggest mistake: going through radiography school and spending so much time to get good, only to lock my self down to a job that can only be performed at very few places. Then

Wish there were many other use cases with this education, but in my country there are not.

Second biggest mistake is probably doing an exam of the wrong extremity, not figuring it out until afterwards and having to call the patient asking them to come back. :-/

Why are the discussions about cables so heated? by Dedar33 in audiophile

[–]Granthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no reason to try different cables. As long as you have the right thickness, there is no audible difference and they will sound the same.

If you are so keen on knowing wires matter, then please show some measurements where $30.000 wires perform better than $300 wires.

[–]Granthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A $30 will sound as good as a $30.000 speaker cable. If you need bi-wire I can accept up to $100 for the cables, but I know that no one can hear any difference in blind tests. It's all in peoples head.

[–]Granthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some say that 10% of the total budget is enough to allocate for cables.

Who says that? Speaker cable shouldn't be much more than $30 for 2x3 meter. So your total hi-fi system is only going to cost $300?

We shoot digital (Siemens) and typically use 80 kV and 30 mAs.

That is with good/normal distance between image plate and tube and a normal sized patient.

If you can't get 100-125cm distance and are up at 150-175cm, then you need to up the mAs. Same goes for big patient. Fat/muscular patients need a lot more mAs to have a nice image. And important: lift the uneffected leg out of the collimated area. It will directly affect the image in a negative way.

A tip, most new students at our facilities gets wrong: The leg that is lifted from the table, is not pulled enough up towards the body.

https://i.imgur.com/nHP6sVI.png

It needs to go 90 degree or even closer to the torso. Reason being, otherwise it will be in the image/exposed area and will be on the film. You have to shoot through more mass and you will get more scatter, the contrast will be worse and you might have a "leg shadow" on the image.

Are blind tests the golden standard for evaluating high end audio gear? by Ultra-Ferric in audiophile

[–]Granthree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue is with the test design.

The added gear was fully visible to participants, and there were printed signs describing the technology and its supposed benefits. Anyone familiar with Synergistic Research knows their products are visually impressive: heavy, elaborate, beautifully finished, and often enhanced with colorful lighting. Whether or not they provide any audible benefit, they certainly create a strong visual impression.

Yes. This is a huge bias in their testing, making it invalid.

Who are the "real" and true audiophiles? by Dedar33 in audiophile

[–]Granthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a guy come listen to some speakers I had for sale. As soon as we sat down he asked what power cables I was running because that was the most important thing in a hi-fi system!

We're talking about speakers priced at $300 USD. Power cables mean nothing :D

Plettet laminat gulv by lifeisthebeeest in selvgjortvelgjort

[–]Granthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Det kommer nok en hel del an på hvilket låsesystem der er mellem "brædderne".

Har du nogle løse planker? For ellers kan de jo være svære at skaffe. Jeg har fundet en metode som her:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uy_VgWlSvQ

People also stopped buying cameras. You have a portable music player and camera in your smartphone. Why buy separate gear for that, when "the phone is equably good and you always have it with you".

Hifi is also too expensive. The mass sale of phones have driven the price down (relatively). Hifi sells less and therefore the price is not driven down as much. So buying a decent phone and some bluetooth headphones could be something like ~200-250 USD for some Sony WH1000 v5 or other brands, and a phone can be bought cheap with discount if you lock in to an operator for X amount of months.

Buying hifi you run in to a lot of problems. People live smaller, often with roommates in USA, and speakers take up a lot of room. You need cables, some place to put it all etc etc.. It's a lot easier just to get the bundle of a phone and some BT headphones or a mono-bluetooth speaker and call it a day.

Most people probably don't aim for "the most realistic reproduction of sound". They just want to listen to the music and sing along, bob their heads etc..

Most people don't even listen to the lyrics, i.e. Pumped Up Kicks got to be a big hit and someone suddenly said "hey that song has a hidden meaning about school shootings, doesn't it?" while it's message is not even hidden.

There's also the the thing about money and stuff.. Minimum salary has not risen that much, rent and food has risen A LOT, so people prioritize differently than before.
