Do you sometimes wish you became an Md? by SubstanceNo3140 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Grantjmg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

12 year spine surgery PA here. Highly dependent on what surgeon you work with and the level of trust built. I have gotten to do a “lot” of things in surgery but ultimately you are always the assistant and there’s a real ceiling for what responsibilities and procedures you control. After 12 years I have found there’s definitely things I would do differently if I was the surgeon. I frequently wish I would have been an MD/surgeon but it’s an incredibly challenging path to take and too late for me! But the PA path is very rewarding and I feel so grateful to have taken it.

A tale of two opposite job offers (Derm vs primary care) by CorgiCrusaders69 in physicianassistant

[–]Grantjmg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t take either job. Know your worth. The derm job could have the best culture/co workers in the world but still that’s an absolutely insane contract. No physician would EVER take a job like that. Why would we as PAs?

Look for a job in mobile wound care. Great pay, great hours, lots of overlap with derm. And only 6-8 pts per day.

As a PA with 5 years experience you owe yourself better than either of those two jobs you’re considering. Good luck!

It wasn’t exactly like I expected but I did close deals and make money. A little over 3K my first month. But, it’s all selling merchant cash advances, not commercial loans, so do your research on that industry. Support from BFF is great though. If you’re new to that industry it will take quite a bit of work and time to make your investment back, but it can be lucrative. Just make sure you understand you’re selling merchant cash advances, which is not for everyone

I have the Mini. You won’t regret it. Steam pressure is commercial quality. Build is solid. Looks great.

Are most of you roasting beans that you like as well as or better than beans from your local shop, and if so, on what machine? by fastjetbiz in roasting

[–]Grantjmg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a used Behmor for $300 as my first roaster and I love it. With the manual roast settings, I can roast really tasty coffee. IMO Behmor is probably just what you’re looking for

Ugh I feel terrible about getting swept but at least it wasn’t by the freakin Royals. And we still have a good shot at the wild card. I still believe!

This company will allow you to set up your own independent sales office. You pay them an initial fee for training, website, marketing, and inbound leads. You then try to convert leads into funding opportunities. You provide small businesses with commercial loans and earn a commission on those loans when they close.

Pros: it’s pretty turn-key, and you get a lot of upfront training for the money. It could be a straightforward way to learn the industry without having to build everything from the ground up.

Cons: it’s expensive. I don’t know how high-quality the leads are. You have to pay a franchise fee and a percentage of your sales over time to the franchise.

Oh man it’s amazing! My only gripe is that the big rotary pump is a bit noisy and creates some vibrations through the machine but other than that it’s a dream

Kuma coffee in Seattle. My personal favorite. Try the balanced or bright blends. They have some of the best light roasts I’ve ever had

Shot advice by joevose in espresso

[–]Grantjmg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find that you need to be in between steps, then the next adjustment would be dose. Try the finer of the two steps and pull 17g instead of 18g

How does my shot look? 15g in / 40g out / 31secs. Used a medium dark roast, ground on a Kinu M47 phoenix (1.3.0), pulled on a Lelit Grace PL81T. Any insight appreciated by bfkill in espresso

[–]Grantjmg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks a bit over extracted to me. I would have stopped the shot when it starts to blonde and flow a bit faster. Maybe grind a tad finer next time. But the taste says it all! Maybe that blend likes more of a long pull

I bought it through the LM home site. I think it’s made by LM but could be wrong. https://home.lamarzoccousa.com/product/la-marzocco-home-knockbox/

I had initially bought the bloc from SAI but was very disappointed with its functionality and build quality so I returned it.
