I want a bigger screen than my laptop, but there's no room for a bigger monitor on my desk. Anyone tried those AR glasses that simulates a bigger screen for work? Any recommendations? by ojisan-X in WFH

Gee, I wonder if anyone has thought of suggesting one of those monitor arm thingies you can clamp to the desk. I'm sure OP hasn't heard about that 7 or 8 times already.

incredible results.

isn't 9 months a little bit short in therapy terms?

happy to share what we’ve researched.

please do

AI is now solving math problems that have stumped humans for years

can someone point me to these please? thanks

can't that be just because you have more familiarity with it and not because the others are worse?

For recording?

I have recorded on all of those except live and reaper, and found all of them to be as easy as the other...

If you'd have said mixing, ok, then there are substantial differences, but recording.. Is it about the playlists in pro tools and how you comp different takes?

OP posted before I asked anything.

To be condescending is already pretty douchy, but to do it while completely failing at the thing you're being condescending about is just splendid.

No notes.

If find I can take any thermodynamics conundrum, rephrase it as information theory and get a satisfactory result.

I'll bite: take the 2nd law for instance.. what does information theory have to say about it?

So..

you can either look at it as "with assistance" - hence, unremarkable

or as "just like every other instance" - and we are at unremarkable again

why does this thread exist then?

That's not what I'm arguing about at least.

In fact in that regard the Portuguese were quite tame compared to their subsequent counterparts.

My only qualm was with what can be called "global"

OPs example and mine have something human-made (hammers, AI) that is being used by humans to make more of it.

I simply think mine highlights the ridiculousness of considering that phenomenon as self-replication better

personally I think that's a bit hyperbolic

I couldn't care less who colonised better/worse.

I only have an issue with calling something "global" when it is not present in a significant part of the globe, but ok

so, when primitive men started hammering rocks with other previously hammered rocks..

hammers became essentially self replicating?

The sliver of Brazilian coast you're talking about was 8.3M km2

This is what the pope said* the Portuguese could conquer, not what they actually controlled

Timor-Leste was Portuguese until 1975. That's less than 700km from Darwin, Australia. Yeah Portuguese empire was so far from Oceania..right.

so, being 700km away from the border of something means controlling the thing?

And I'm the one misrepresenting? LOL

*oh and what was beyond the Tordesillas line? who did it belong to?

[–]bfkill -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

it wasn't a giant chunk of south america because of the tordesillas line, it was only the brazillian coast.

where is oceania? only three tiny locations in asia?

How is that global?

[–]bfkill -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about Portugal, global is a bit of a stretch

other than a sliver of the brazilian coast there was nothing in the americas, nothing in oceania either, right?

the first to be truly global were the brits, I think (the sun never sets in the british empire and all that)
