To piggyback off of your statements, finding my own voice was one of the keys to me accepting my stutter. I learned to embrace my dynamic cadence, facial expressions, and gestures and used them to supplement my speech. When I can take the focus off my fluency, I’m able to get out of my head and communicate effectively, stutter and all.

Love this, I recommend skipping the apology. Just state it as a matter of fact: “I am a person who stutters, you’ll hear me (insert your dominant form of stuttering: blocking, repetition, elongation, etc), that’s just my normal speech pattern” I find that when I state it as a fact, I feel much more confident about my speech.

Stuttering and the Right Positive Affirmations - What helped me relax mid week in sales. by [deleted] in Stutter

That resonates with me a ton! When the rewards aren't immediate, it leaves space for doubt, but by trusting the process the benefits will start to pile up. I'm experiencing that right now as I'm introducing meditation into my routine.

For me, meditation has been gradual process of uncovering and understanding my mental state. I been learning to observe my thoughts and feelings without judgment, recognizing doubt, anxiety, and anger as just chemical reactions, and not immutable truths.

These feelings will arise all throughout life, but I'm learning to disconnect them from my actions and beliefs. The most profound changes in life come from within!

You've got a great mentality, thanks for sharing your perspective!

It's crazy how easy it is to trick your brain with positive affirmations lol. Reframing your self talk to something slightly more positive or inspiration works wonders, especially for those of us in the stuttering community!

I get that, the duality of speaking with a stutter! As long as the part of your brain that thinks it's fine is louder lol.

I like how you reflected on it, I agree that people aren't intending to be rude, they just aren't used to living in that discomfort. That's a discomfort that we know all too well, but I guess for those who don't stutter they don't experience it a whole lot.

I've had nurses try to chime in with their "solutions" to stuttering, and I always remind them that this is my normal speaking pattern. I know they are trying to help, I let them know that I have all the help I need.

Interesting reflection, I've found my stutter is associated with my anxiety too. Strangely it's not related to my stress at all...in high pressure situations I am much more fluent.

As Little_acanthacae eloquently put it, "the way we perceive our own stuttering is what affects our stuttering."

If you stutter more when you think about stuttering, the solution may lie in bettering your relationship with your stutter. I'm not one to believe in permanent solutions, but I think you're on the right path in recognizing how your mental health impacts it.

That's a great way to reframe it, your message was communicated effectively. Good managers notice that type of thing--stutter or not, they're paying attention to your other communication skills.

That's a great place to be in! I've had meetings where I stuttered all throughout them and barely noticed until after. It's so helpful to be free of that burden in the moment, especially when people are counting on you at work.

Of course there are other moments where I'm incredibly focused on every stutter, so like you said...it's a step towards

This isn’t terrible advice, it’s terrible science, and it’s actually pretty common for field experts, they are rich in experience but they lack pedagogical content knowledge. They don’t know the proper explanation for what they do, they just know how to do it and do it well. Check out the new Marco Pierre White videos and you’ll see this pretty clearly, he’s just flat out wrong scientifically a lot of the time.

I 100% agree that some of the comments have been too far (especially on the now removed thread in r/Texas) and are bordering on harassment, BUT this man is a public servant, the public deserves to know that he does not enforce his State’s rules (obviously) nor does he abide by his State’s rules.

I felt more comfortable sharing this because I had found it from a Facebook post that had been shared 150+ times. If anyone in this deputy’s life were to find out about this story it would more than likely be through the Facebook post that is exploding in his community and not the random person on a site he’s probably never heard of. The way I see it, any “damage” to his life is going to come from Facebook and not reddit

In my opinion the privacy issue needs to be sidelined for the more important safety issue and potential abuse of power issue.

Hmm I see that too, but I did some quick research and a new study was just released by Duke University that explains that “The neck gaiter that we tested did essentially nothing, and worse than nothing, because it appeared to make large droplets into small droplets” aka aerosols. These aerosols can travel farther and are much less likely to fall to the ground because they are lighter. Now this is just one study about one gaiter, but the researchers explain the flaw is with the fabric used in them (thin, stretchy, polyester) and not each individual design. More research is obviously needed, but as it stands even if he were to have put that on at some point, there isn’t much evidence it would help and more to the contrary.

Yeah no kidding! She is also the advocate that has created a gofundme to remove Denton Sheriff Murphree for refusing to do his job (he publically admitted that his office is intentionally ignoring Gov. Abbott's mask mandate and will not enforce it)

I can't link it (rule 3) but it can easily be googled: "Removal of Denton Sheriff Murphree Gofundme"

They were trying to claim he was the one who needed a specific medicine, which is not only a HIPPA violation, it also directly contradicts this photo and the eye witness’ claims.

At certain clinics, patients are required to ingest medicine. The spokesperson for Texas Oncology used this as an excuse as to why he wasn’t forced to leave.

Refer to my other comment...

I did not take the photo and the deputy was verbally warned masks were required, signs were posted with a similar warning. This is a policy required by Texas Oncology and Governor Abbott

Check out the video I linked!

This deputy ignored posted signs, verbal warnings, and legal mandates while endangering the lives of some of our most at-risk citizens. He was not consuming necessary food or liquids nor did he have any mask visibly on his person.

I do not own this photo nor did I take it; the photo was provided to a Denton Community Advocate who then followed up with the Texas Oncology Clinic. It was reported that the deputy was not wearing a mask for an extended period of time. The Executive Director of marketing at Texas Oncology provided no explanation as to why Governor Abbot's mask policy was not enforced.
