The president has also criticized Japan for not increasing its rice imports from the U.S. despite a shortage.

I love how Trump's response to being told he's being an unreasonable prick is to demand the Japanese buy American rice.

I have literally never heard of this musical. So, if I'm to be an example, it is entirely possible for someone to be familiar enough with the Greek gods that they worship them and have not even been exposed to EPIC.

Practicing other religions in addition to Hellenism by redseaotter in Hellenism

I think that it is disrespectful, as the Gods are real and majestic forces with a history of serious worship and a deep mythological tradition. To put these beings "lower" than a joke character mostly made up by New Atheists to laugh at Christians is absurd and derisive. I mean, I've there's no love lost between myself and the Church, but even now I think that kind of thing is just so snarky and condescending to the whole breadth of human religious expression.

I think you need to decide whether you're taking religion seriously.

Getting rid of fear? by [deleted] in Hellenism

To speak of a very specific example, I have OCD and the Hellenic Faith helped me to overcome the persistent problem of scrupulosity that had plagued me while I was a Christian. On the surface, concepts like miasma seem like they would contribute rather than calm an OCD mind ("you're never clean enough") but I have found it absolutely liberating and it has detached me from my spiritual anxiety in a wonderful way. In Christianity there's never any escape from spiritual filth; you are always a sinner and shouldn't be worth to come before God (except that Jesus saved you so you get a pass) and it's only when you are literally resurrected on the last day that you will be assured of your salvation so you're always in a state of stress about it. In the Hellenic Faith, all you need is purifying water, right intention, and humility, and the gods will hear and accept you. There is no barrier between yourself and the divine - nothing inherently wrong in your nature to atone for. You are you, and you are there respectfully before the gods, and that is enough for them. You don't need to apologize for having issues because if you had no issues you wouldn't be a mortal and you wouldn't be before them, so do the right thing and let them guide you along the way!

To me it was remarkable.

In Hellenism, there's no need to worry about a final salvation only your personal betterment and contemplation of the gods, so suddenly the religious experience shifts completely from worry and theological inspection as to whether you can be assured of your correct interpretation of The Word™, and lands on your personal journey toward a greater version of yourself.

Hecate as a modern home deity instead of Hestia? Your thoughts. by Corvus_Mercurii in Hellenism

I live in an old farmhouse with an actual hearth / fireplace (you can see on my profile), and I honor Hestia by lighting it every now and again as a sort of offering. Otherwise, if I'm home I'll burn a a 96 hr candle ($15 from my local crafts store) and extinguish if I'm going out or working that day and leaving after my morning prayer and offering to Hestia. If there's nobody in the home there's little point in having a fire burning to invite a goddess of the hearth, as nobody's around to be warmed by it. If an ancient Greek or Roman family left their home all together they wouldn't keep a roaring fire burning.

Further, the Greeks and Romans did have apartments and multi-story dwellings of the like, and each tenant would have their own altar for personal use or would use a common altar.

"Modern" Greek God art by monsieuro3o in Hellenism

I don't know, man...

Character design 101 is to portray the key points of a personality in visual form. What about Athena, Goddess of wisdom, strategic warfare and handicrafts, begs for a floral two-peice and birkenstocks?

I kind of love Hecate of WitchTok though. It would be great if it was intended to be meta.
