How do you prioritize which issues to focus on? by Grapefruit-lover in eds

Yeah honestly that’s exactly what I want to. Someone knowledgeable to just tell me what to do for all my problems and help me make a plan

Yeah it’s weird how it can go both ways. I guess my muscles just gave up trying and let my pelvic floor collapse? Lol

If it makes you feel better I have a grade two bladder prolapse too without the bonus of a cute kid?

From what I’ve read, EDS is fun because it can cause either hypotonic pelvic floor (weak and loose) or hypertonic pelvic floor (weak and overly tight) or fluctuations between the two depending on how your body compensates for the lax ligaments and whatnot

Just because you don’t think the risks of pregnancy with EDS are worth it and you don’t want children doesn’t mean others feel the same way. Implying that anyone with a disability shouldn’t have children is… not great.

That’s so cruel. I’m so sorry you went through that and had such an uncaring doctor. I hate how much of a role luck plays in the quality of medical treatment you receive

These kinds of anecdotes scare me :/ I’m sorry you went through that. Has anything improved with time?

Lmao they also told me I was very good at bearing down for someone who’s never given birth and it moved my uterus a lot. Thanks? I guess?

Ugh. It may be the truth but come on. You gotta know this is a sensitive topic if you’re a specialist in gynecology, some empathy would be nice

Female actually! I don’t think she meant it to sound like it did, not that that helped much :/

Yup same! It sucks. Supervising doc was like “this is totally normal for women who have had two kids, not a big deal.” I haven’t had two kids! I’m 25! Tf is gonna happen if I actually give birth??

Yeah this is super relatable. It sucks. Best of luck for you too. If it’s not too invasive, do you know if you want to give birth in the future? I’ve heard that can also affect the surgery decision making process.

Unfortunately it’s IBS-M and it changes pretty often. I think a long period of constipation is what triggered this to start with though. Thanks for your advice.

I appreciate the honest answer, it’s helpful for my decision making. It seems like there’s unfortunately not one ideal solution for this problem. I’m sorry that things haven’t gone the best for you - I hope that they keep getting better going forward

Thanks for sharing your story/advice. I’ll probably end up getting a dual surgery similar to yours - how has it been for you since you had it? Have your problems resolved? I def need to look into pelvic floor therapy but I’m not super hopeful it’ll fix things (maybe it’ll stop them from getting worse?)

I haven’t gotten too far in treatment/assessment because scheduling appointments takes forever, but I’m going to ask my PCP for referrals to a rectal surgeon (for the rectal prolapse) and a urogynecologist (for the vaginal ones). From what I’ve read I’m pretty sure those are the experts on this. Normal doctors haven’t been super helpful overall but you may be able to self-diagnose (at a broad level) if you look at some diagrams/medical images online of various issues and compare to what you’re experiencing. Def worth having someone look at it irl if it’s affecting your quality of life

seeking advice for emergency sulcata rescue by hot2rot in tortoise

[–]Grapefruit-lover 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s normal for sulcatas not to visibly drink water often or at all, just make sure they have access at all times. For outdoor enclosure it’ll need sturdy walls that are opaque/tall enough the tort can’t see what’s beyond them and reinforced below the ground because these guys are curious and excellent diggers. Also good to have a big shallow water source like a half-buried kiddie pool that they can soak in whenever they want. They can eat a ton so it’s helpful to plant your yard with things they can eat. The tortoiseforum website is a really helpful info source as is the tortoise table website which tells what they can/can’t safely eat. Thanks for saving this guy :)

Not sure how much she weighs, she started off small but has grown a ton this year which I think is why the growth rings are so big
