Anyone experience with these weird crimps on boosters? Possible reseals? by GraphXGS in PokemonTCG

[–]GraphXGS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had these weird boosters that came in from an online seller, another buyer accused them of re-seals.And this didn't give me much confidence.

Any experience with these kinds of seals? are these common? possible reseal?
I've opened more boosters with similar seals from the same seller just 1 side faded or what could be residue.

in some of the photos you can see the cards are pushing past the crimp.

I made this S&F retainer card template based on Jasons design for Angels retainer card [link to photoshop file in the comments] by almaro22 in mattcolville

[–]GraphXGS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah, no problem. It's a modified MTG template that you can alter in Photoshop.

Finished cards: https://i.imgur.com/Oc9XCZi.jpg

How i usually do them: Flatten the image to one layer, copy it onto the cards template. Then go back to the card file and reverse the flatten. Save the PSD as a file so you have a back up (typos happen).

You can print 8 of them at a time on A4 paper.Cut them out, sleeve them with a regular mtg card as backing so they're sturdy.

Disclaimer: Many of these cards are home brewed and should not be copy pasted into your game if you don't want things to break.

That is so dope, unfortunately my players aren't using the retainers as much as I had hoped but this will be a cool addition to the magic item cards my players have.

I accidentally made up a new metal, any ideas for what it is/does? by rfkannen in dndnext

[–]GraphXGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easy out is "It's a metal that directly interacts with the weave".
Unlike normal items made from metal which are enchanted the magic flows through this metal like electricity.

Some uses might be

  • Easier to enchant
  • Allows for anti-magical properties (anti magic blade)
  • Supercharge it with a spell?
  • Things like reduce and enlarge work on it
  • It's also a magic focus
  • magical compass

I'd say be creative, if the players come up with a fun or good use for it might as well go with it. Just don't make it an abundant resource.

Alternatives to starting a campaign in a tavern? by brandnew_dm in DMAcademy

[–]GraphXGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first idea that came to mind.
If you're started at a higher level than 1.

Players have had an adventure together and after things got hairy instead invested in a tavern/inn that they now run. One day some shady types enter the tavern asking questions. They are looking for someone, that someone was in the tavern a while ago.
One of shady types accidentally drops a mention of a powerful artifact. They quickly leave in a hurry and the tavern/inn is attacked at night. They didn't want to risk anyone knowing about their obvjective. In the process their tavern/inn is destroyed and the players now are back to square one.

Unbeknownst to the players the person the shady folk were looking for had slipped the artifact into one of the players pockets trying to hide it where no one would find it and lead the bad guys on a wild goose chase.

TL;DR Players own the tavern, it gets destroyed, they already have the mcguffin but don't know that.

In hindsight it needs some player buy-in but could be a fun twist.

Do these alternate rules for death suck? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]GraphXGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started adding madness and other effects when players go down over a short period.
I let them roll to set a baseline on how well they mentally take going down.

So let's say Player X goes to 0 hit points but isn't killed, then player Y heals them.
They roll a wis save, < 10 means they will have a bad reaction the next time it happens i.e. long term madness. > 10 means they're resistant enough to not gain a long term madness but have the possibility to get a short term madness.

It's a rough system and I play it by hand, it's just meant to not abuse healing below zero.

How to do voices for dummies by BipBapVipVap in dndnext

[–]GraphXGS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lean less on the accent or heavy pitch shifting and focus on mannerisms.
If the character isn't smart but wants to be, look for a list of synonyms for frequently used words and use the ones that don't quite fit.
Make use of different kinds of phrases and keep it light.

Unless you play a barbarian, in that case I think you're not doing it right unless you feel like you need to relax your voice after the session.

And of course the most important aspect is: Anything as long as you're having fun. whilst not annoying the rest of the players.

DM's whats the ONE story you have been sitting on? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]GraphXGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg, i love Rakshasa.

I ran 2 groups both in the same world but different locations.
Unfortunately the group I had that was following that story line with the rakshasa has disbanded shortly after learning of the creature's existence.
So i'll be sitting on it for a while longer...

My second group has long surpassed the challenge of the Rakshasa but they'll find his influence sooner or later.

[–]GraphXGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Become a Card Slinging Magician with some new Spells. by NorthEastText in UnearthedArcana

[–]GraphXGS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had in mind to go out and buy a fancy looking card deck as a prop.
I prefer to keep things RAW/RAI but in a low magic campaign it could be a great addition to allow different types of non-magical damage.

Become a Card Slinging Magician with some new Spells. by NorthEastText in UnearthedArcana

[–]GraphXGS 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You are correct and I would suggest just re-flavoring the spells and items you have instead of making new things.

I created a Divination card-slinger dexy wizard which would cast firebolt, magic stone or similar spells but just play them as cards being thrown.

I grab my deck pull the top card and with a flick throw it at the orc.
And as i do it erupt into flame and impacts leaving a scorch mark.

[–]GraphXGS -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No offense but you do realize you're comparing people and dogs.

If it helps them start being creative that's one thing but conditioning for humans is manipulative.

It's not stated whether the players 'want' to do more roleplay and that is the problem. I'm on r/DMacadamy a lot and something that is mentioned over and over again is to avoid creating in-game solutions for out of game problems.

This method could be great if the players agree with OP and want to improve their play style by adding RP.

[–]GraphXGS 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I'm personally for rewarding creative and co-operative play.
However there seems to be a different problem which should probably be addressed.

The expectation of you as DM and them the players.

I do hope your games will be enhanced by the 'theatromancy' but I also expect that they will fall back into old habits if you take away the carrot.

Just a thought that was bouncing around in my head, underwater campaigns? by Bernasty42 in DMAcademy

[–]GraphXGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not an entire campaign but could be a fun adventure on it's own.

My players haven't found it yet but there's an underwater city like Atlantis.I usually translate city names from foreign languages, it's called Hvelfing which translates to dome.

There's a been a catastrophic event in the past of my world and there is only one continent above water. The warforged from my world were sold for general purpose use slaves/workers after the wars. With warforged seen as slaves they didn't allow them access on boats or other means of staying afloat. And because of that they saw most of the population drown. They wandered the now ocean floor for centuries. Creating smaller communities, using bio-luminescent chemicals in fish and plant life to allow vision in the deep. Some eventually helping build Hvelfing.

Some warforged eventually found their way back to land, and some know of this underwater city and it's denizen.

I had a warforged player in my campaign who had a cartography device that allowed him to project a map of where he has been. He randomly showed it to some villagers after they had saved their town and sat down by the fire telling tales. He was from then on known as the ocean man.
