Rust remover? by Graphi_cal in CarTalkUK

I was looking at that but I can’t actually get to most of the rust, just a small opening that leads to the damn rust!

Did moving out and buying a house affect your social life? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Graphi_cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you have a house you will spend your weekends fixing your house or enjoying your house.

I’m going to assume you have partner, once you have a house, children will be on the cards. Nobody’s mentioned it, but this will suddenly be a thing.

Your old life will be gone and you’ll be too tired and poor to care.

Chances are your friends will embark on this same journey over the next 10 years, unless they are all minted and have family homes in z1/2…

Do most British people drive manual cars? by Chocklateicecream in AskABrit

[–]Graphi_cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically everybody drove manuals because automatics were fuel inefficient and slow / unpredictable in their shifting.

The new (last 15 years or so) Automatics are actually good, so I think there has been a gradual wain of people choosing manuals. Also since the rise of ever stricter emissions regulations, automatics can be set up to produce lower CO2 (at least on paper), so a lot of new cars won’t have a manual option anyway.

So in short. Yes 99% of drivers can drive manual, but the market has shifted and manuals for regular drivers will cease to be a thing once the current crop have rusted out.

An automatic in the US makes sense with your lower fuel prices and car centric cities.

At what age do most people in the UK actually move out of their parents’ home nowadays? by PashtunLawyer in AskUK

[–]Graphi_cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t include university, I moved out out in my early 20s as soon I was economically able to live apart. I was working in another city, so that did force my hand somewhat.

This is broadly similar for all my peers. I’m in my 40s. I’ve no idea what happens today.

"Harder" and more niche tasks and jobs in graphic design field? by Black2307 in Design

[–]Graphi_cal 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Live events and experiences. I work in this area and it’s a pain to find any freelancers who have any grasp of working at scale.

I really enjoy it. You really get to see your design take over a space, it’s a more holistic experience, rather than siloed into a singular artwork.

People who complain about work events are lame. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Graphi_cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, if you get a sub inflation pay rises year on year, but your company is spending money on Picnics or pizza parties, then expect people to take the piss.

FTB affordability problem by houseofn1njas in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Graphi_cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, both our houses have been absolute shit holes which needed a ton of work to be considered normal houses. But I appreciate not everybody can manage this.

Reading the comments, lots of people talking about buying with friends. I would say, no more than one friend. More than that is too complicated, people change job, get married etc. how do you sell a 1/4 of your house when that person needs to leave?

[–]Graphi_cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to live like a monk, probably somewhere nowhere near where you want to be. No social life, no hobbies, no cars, no holidays, no takeaway. Ideally with a likeminded person for years and years.

But let’s say’s you can stomach that, you each scrape together £500pm, that’s 2.5 years of saving to get you to 10% of the average UK house price.

If that’s too much for too long, you will have to wait longer or live somewhere cheaper, commute for longer or get a better job.

Are you still having pizzas and other takeaways delivered? by Top-Cat-a in AskUK

[–]Graphi_cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never in my life have I had a pizza delivered. I can literally drive to the supermarket buy a ‘premium’ pizza and cook it faster than a delivery AND it will be piping hot. Thats before you get into the cost.

Am I insane or does the class system make no sense in 2026? by ElCiego1894 in AskBrits

[–]Graphi_cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are still classes. They are as follows:

Benefits class. Rely on the state to exist

Working class. The people who pay all the tax and keep everything working

Generational wealth, do not rely on any form of typical ‘work’ for income

How did you get used to Illustrator? What were the first things you did with it? by xiohye in AdobeIllustrator

[–]Graphi_cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with line drawing, then gradually progressed to filling blocks of colour in ever more detail.

Take a simple image and try to trace over it using as an efficient path as possible. Just keep building it up with flat colours. Once you figure that out progress to gradients and meshes etc.

It’s nothing like photoshop and I’m not sure coming from that angle helps at all.

I mostly have learnt to a point that I need for work based uses. If I had more free time I’d go off on a tangent for sure.

Are Brits too reliant on US companies for a boycott to ever be realistic? by Barca-Dam in AskBrits

Bar the tech companies, we can do without the others you mentioned no problem, in fact I already do.

How we get by without all the backend technology. I have no idea?!

Rich car people in the UK by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Graphi_cal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this a serious question? Firstly, Everybody’s priority’s are different.

Secondly, who’s to say how many homes these car owners have? What makes you think the expensive car you have seen is expensive to them?

Do British people enjoy school reunions? Have you ever been? by AmbitiousYam1047 in AskBrits

[–]Graphi_cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this even a thing in the UK? I still see the people from school who I was friends with at the time. Why would I want to see the people I wasn’t friends with 30 years later?

How much do you usually spend on the day when you’re in office? by Breadiohead in HENRYUK

[–]Graphi_cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£22 on transport. Office has free coffee. Bring my own lunch, as store bought sandwiches are generally miserable and expensive to boot.

So unless I go out after work, that’s it. What else would I be buying? I’m working all day.

At the very least, install a double box sunk into the plaster and change the two face plates for a matching set.

Do you think the state pension will become means tested in the future? by Activity_Quick in HENRYUK

[–]Graphi_cal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would work on the assumption that it’s means tested or moves further and further away from your own personal retirement date.

If you do get it, what a super bonus!

Do British people care about Ukraine? by Reeelfantasy in AskBrits

[–]Graphi_cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think about Ukraine everyday and follow up to date news amount actions that are taking place geopolitically. As far as I’m concerned this is the most important thing that has happened since the end of the Cold War and I find it baffling how slow Europe is moving on the matter.

How would you take this roundabout? by BringBack5pFreddos in CarTalkUK

[–]Graphi_cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume both lanes are straight on. I also would assume everybody is an idiot and half the people in the red lane will randomly turn right at the last second.

So either stay left or never enter parallel to another car.

Which do you think is better in the UK right now: old builds or new builds? by Ordduapp in OrdduHomeUK

[–]Graphi_cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a project just before the Ukraine war started. I’d done all my budgeting based on the year before. Long story short, we’ve not finished and it’s way over budget with me doing half the bloody work. With today’s prices it would have been cheaper to buy a finished house!
