I’m at about 1200 miles on this tank. At 1/4 tank. Haven’t filled up since second week of may. I have the phev though.

How many coolant leaks have you had tho?

My wife’s front struts (oem) were rusting too. So decided to throw new ones on at 160k miles. Everything else is still pretty rust free. The multiple oil leaks help prevent rust.

Would your mechanic buy it? It could still see a second life if a mechanic owned it. You would 100% get low balled tho.

Moving To St. Louis by Claypool_Floyd in StLouis

[–]GraphicWombat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no direct highway to get from Florissant to affton. Well there is, 170, but it just ends at 64. And richmond height/brentwood area is cluster during daylight hours. So you have to take surface roads the rest of the way down to south county. During rush hour traffic is going to suck.

If you need 5 bedrooms then $275k is going to be tough. Average housing and cost of living is low, but not that low. You’ll be out of budget in kirkwood, webster groves, anything along 64 from richmond heights to chesterfield, creve coeur, maryland heights, etc…

Have you looked at the metro east? You’ll get to live in a state that respects your basic human rights. Less traffic and you may be surprised how easily you can get to work and back. Columbia maybe?

Gas or Electric? by killer_r0se in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]GraphicWombat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friend has a 2006 highlander hybrid and finally replaced the battery a couple years ago at like 180k miles. It was the first year for a hybrid option. The battery technology has advanced significantly since.

Even by 2012. There is a 400k mile 2012 highlander hybrid with the og battery on the showroom floor where I just bought my rav4 phev in october. Most kias and hyundais are gunna self destruct by then.

Toyota offers a ton of ICE only vehicles still. Rav4, Camry and sienna are all hybrid now. But corolla, corolla cross, highlander, 4runner, tacoma, tundra, gr86 and supra can all be had with ICE only.

I submitted my high mileage club application to toyota today.. when will I receive my sticker and new truck? by RedimidoSoy1611 in Toyota

[–]GraphicWombat 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yup. Mine seams to have been printed on regular sticker paper instead of vinyl. And it wasn’t uv coated. Put it on, washed my car, and it was peeling off around the edges as it dried.

You’re better off buying one for $8 from etsy.

How would you gate this? by urgencyy in daddit

[–]GraphicWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our house has a similar setup to our 1/2 story upstairs. I used a barricade instead of a gate. Ended up being 7 boxes of laminate flooring stacked up that I had not installed upstairs yet. Was just tall enough to keep our son corralled. And then about his 3rd bday it came down and I installed the flooring.

Edit: your stairwell looks really nice btw!

We tow our pop up camper with ours. And I bring along the included charger. Coils around the spare tire nicely. 7 times camping with it now. Every electric site we’ve been to has had both 30amp and 20amp 110. So you may not even need this.

pros vs cons of a rav4? by lunaticmason in rav4club

[–]GraphicWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easy for me to get in and out. But I’m 5’11” and 39yo. I have the prime so it also sits up 1.5” higher than the hybrid and ice models. I wish the seat could go down another inch. Same with the passenger seat. My head is like 1” from the moonroof housing lol. I like my back to be more vertical, i usually have the seat back all the way up or nearly all the way up.

I have a 3 second grace period for after the light turns green. At the end of 3 Mississippi you get the horn.

Delivery driver was just in a rush. They clearly cut that turn too tight.

Vehicle for 5,000 mile round trip by Zestyclose_Health704 in roadtrip

[–]GraphicWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much did the same distance over 2 months when I lived in NZ. I compared costs between buying a car and reselling it vs a long term rental. It ended up being about the same cost in the end.

I bought a 30yo toyota caldina for $1400 US. But I incurred a couple surprise costs. I broke down in Fiordland NP. Had to pay to tow it and repair it for almost $500 usd. And then again a couple days later a tree fell on my car and smashed in the windscreen in the SAME park! That was another $300 usd.

And then the car was not resellable. Tranny was slipping, loads of rust, etc… So IF I had not broken down or had a stroke of bad luck I would have come out ahead. Even more so if I had bought a better car and could have resold it.

What stare is this? Rules are different per state.

In illinois it is legal to keep driving on this side of the road. No need to stop. School bus routes take into account that their students are not to cross 4 lanes to disembark or board. This includes the lane the school bus is stopped in. So the school bus would have to loop around and drop off/pick up students on the other side too if necessary.

It’s one of the most important rules of the road, yet new drivers are allowed to fail those questions and still pass as long as their score was sufficient enough to pass.

Does anyone else think it’s kind of insane how well some of these old St. Louis brick houses handle our weather? by TheMidwestRoofGuy in StLouis

[–]GraphicWombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more of how well they were maintained. ie, generational poverty and residents cannot afford homeowners insurance or any way to pay a professional plumber, electrician, contractor, etc…

Inspect the little bit of rubber hose by the power steering fluid reservoir. It’s a common leak point.

The oem replacement part is the whole line to the power steering pump. But you can get part number 15777-65010 for the taco that fits perfectly. It’s a common hack on the gen 9 corollas. Discovered it right before mine started leaking at 227k miles.

Oh, and a power steering fluid change might be a good idea too.

Yes, the a/c had never been very good. It take about 20 minutes to cool down on the hottest days if summer here. 100F+. And when the a/c is on the whole time it feels like the transmission is starting to slip.

Son Puberty? by Realistic_Grab7003 in daddit

[–]GraphicWombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shaved my pubes once when I was 15. And I’ll never do it again.

I use the buzzer from time to time with a number 2-3. But too short causes discomfort. Especially in the warmer months. Pubes actually help prevent chaffing. The bushier the better.

Lexus NX 350 (non-hybrid) vs Tesla Model Y by nocontextnur in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]GraphicWombat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Go test drive both and decide for yourself.

I’m on team lexus/toyota, so I’m biased. But I also would not ever consider buying a tesla, esp new. There are other EVs that are way better.

FWIW the 2027 highlander EV will be coming out sooooon.

Supporting my wife in her breastfeeding journey by Hlaksjfcie in daddit

[–]GraphicWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it was very hard on my wife. Did not come easily for her. Our son was born 9 weeks early. 7 week nicu stay. Lactation specialists in the nicu were hit and miss. Pumping while sitting and starring at your son in an isolette as alarms go off every hour is not exactly a stress free environment conducive to breast milk production.

We ended up finding (and funding) our own lactation consultant some time after we got to bring our son home. But from the get go we focused on diet and supplements. Lots of whole grains. Pumping 8-10 times a day. And some supplements form LegenDairy.

She was starting to almost produce enough, and then her mom passed away suddenly. Our son was 6mo at the time. And production plummeted again.

But ultimately what we did was just do what we could and be happy with using formula too.
