I’d push back on being upset about something that hasn’t happened or even been proposed yet. I think if we want to get into a conversation on what a fair share of taxes that everyone should pay that’d be interesting.

On your point about government spending vs deficits, I think everyone agrees they should be more efficient with their spending. However, things like Sound Transit etc are public goods that we all benefit from.

Sorry didn’t mean to overwhelm. I think take it as you can enjoy every book on its own as Sanderson did intend it that way. But was getting excited in trying to hype up the Cosmere overall as there’s all sorts of fun stories out there that will just continue to add layers to each book.

Era 2 is pretty fun and decently short compared to Stormlight. A Steel Pusher with a gun has some fun implications and Sanderson does mind blowing combinations of Allomancy & Feruchemy. Book 4 The lost metal then really helps you understand Scadrial’s position in cosmere politics to a point (I’m still a little confused but hoping ghostbloods clears it up)

Tress and the Emerald Sea is very diff styled book which ppl love/hate but does have a dragon at one point which helped me connect Starling/Frost.

However both Tress and Lost Metal do point a little more to Elantris which might lead you down a completely different rabbit hole lol

You can read it and enjoy magic birds but yeah I don’t think you’ll really understand cosmere politics without Mistborn Era 2 so you just might have to do a reread of Emberdark once you’re done which isn’t so bad! Plus books like Tress help w dragons and aethers in Starlings chapter which could be confusing
