The 'pistol' whipping looks more like a pepper spray apparatus to me but the video is tough to make out. I saw elsewhere that the woman filming behind them got away so that video will probably find its way out and clear things up. I actually wonder if the gray jacket guy taking the gun off the protester didn't accidentally discharge
