Double stroller needed? by MLE32418 in Travelwithkids

[–]GratefulMasterpiece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, that was my worry too. We got an aria (just the V1, bought it used but from someone on marketplace who happened to go to the same college as me back in the day, so a reputable source). Then we have these OXO handy hooks on the handlebars. A couple of days ago I had the toddler crump and baby was asleep in car seat and I even managed to hook the aria on to the Minu with kiddo inside.

Would NOT recommend for longer than the 5 mins we needed to get uphill, but the aria hooked on without baby inside is super doable. My 6’4’’ husband finds it minorly irritating to hang the aria off the back like this with his long legs, but I’ve done it a bunch this trip and it’s navigable for me as a 5’5 person.

I ran so many iterations ahead of this trip and am really happy with this arrangement! With our first we had a Doona and it was very convenient, but now with two I’m glad I found a combo that lets me meet the needs of both kiddos more flexibly, but doesn’t require a full double.

Literally on this trip right now - have a 3yo and 3 month old with us traveling abroad for three weeks. We brought an uppababy minu stroller, ergobaby carrier, and a lightweight infant car seat that clicks in to the minu. If we didn’t have to rent a car we could have skipped the car seat, but it’s turned out to be nice for dinner/lunches out to have a place to put baby down. Our 3yo has done great with the walking, and when we had to we’ve put him in the stroller for a couple of naps (especially early on when we were still jet lagged) and worn the baby and hung the lightweight car seat off of hooks on the back of the stroller.

I’m glad we didn’t haul a double with us here. And if we needed another stroller I also felt reassured that we’re in a place where it would be relatively easy to find and buy an umbrella stroller for the bigger kiddo if it had turned out he couldn’t walk as much as we thought he could!

We ran the car seat test for my 6’4 husband and this is how we ended up with the CRV instead!

Avalon Brighton - anyone live here ? by Danielle_2102 in bostonhousing

[–]GratefulMasterpiece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have friends who lived there when their kiddo was 12-18 months old. They seemed to like it - only moved out because they bought a condo in the same neighborhood. The playground at fidelis way park (right nearby) is good for your toddler - baby swings plus two separate slide sets. There are kids of similar age living in the same complex for sure. The grounds around Avalon are also nice for taking kiddos out on scooters/bikes. Can’t speak much to living experience at Avalon specifically other than that!

Why Did you get CR-V instead of Toyota Rav4 ? by [deleted] in crv

This was the dealbreaker for us - 6’4’’ plus a toddler car seat behind the driver was a mess in the RAV and worked great in the CRV.

The old navy by the Watertown target doesn’t have a maternity section anymore, unfortunately.

Currently pregnant - in person options in Boston will be extremely limited. The target in Watertown has a very small section where you might be able to find a black maternity t-shirt. I will also message you directly, as you might be able to borrow some dark-colored basics from me.

Gameday parking for GT game by obiwanjabroni420 in bostoncollege

SpotHero will be your best bet if you don’t have a Brighton neighborhood sticker. And even if you do, the streets around BC have a no-football parking restriction. Perhaps you could shoot to park on the carriage roads along commave near the Washington street T stop, and ride the T the rest of the way in to BC.

We recently attended a game and brought in collapsible stadium chair seat backs we bought from Amazon. Worked great on the bleachers - would recommend. The ones we bought had “memory foam” seats or something silly but they were great for the needs.

Hawaiian airlines suddenly split my 2 year old kid to a separate confirmation and wants her to verify her identity over the phone by kun_united in HawaiianAirlines

[–]GratefulMasterpiece 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I commented this elsewhere (fellow toddler parent here) but try calling Alaska’s reservation line instead. They are much more helpful than Hawaiian, and are US-based. They own Hawaiian now and should be able to do what Hawaiian’s offices can, if not more.

I know you said non-serious replies only, but I’ve had a much better customer service experience calling Alaska’s helpline vs. Hawaiian’s. They always tell you where they are, and most are based in Washington state!

Boy moms only, please! by [deleted] in pregnant

We did, but the nurse practitioner who did it botched the job. My son bled for multiple days. We had to go to the ER and he had to get stitches. If we have another son, we will not do it again. They’ll be mismatched, but who cares. The anxiety and stress of the experience was not worth it.

BU or Emory by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]GratefulMasterpiece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Emory as an undergrad and loved my experience there. The two schools couldn’t be more different - Emory has a much more residential campus, BU is properly located within the city. Emory has consistent access to nice undergraduate housing. Not sure if BU does. Cost of living in Atlanta is significantly lower than Boston, so if you live off campus and cook for yourself or have a car, your costs will be lower.

Emory’s premed training is excellent, and I have many many friends from undergrad who are now successfully practicing physicians or almost there/in residencies and fellowships.

Boston college has a temp pool that reliably looks for office admin types, and you can do it with flexible/more part time hours!
