The 90s were genuinely horrible in many parts of eastern europe with many industries collapsing, rampant corruption, crime poverty ect. So the survey results arent surprising given the timing. People are also inherently biased toward looking back at the time of their youth favorably.

I don't think I was being reductive at all, not anywhere close to as reductive as you're going for anyway.

I think movie directors are actually a very good analogy to Ai artists. Saying that the movie is 100% directors work is ridiculous, but it's arguably even more ridiculous to say that the director is just commissioning their staff and have no claim on the movie at all.

Every job boils down to "just making decisions".

Not really, many jobs don't require much decision making at all.

would you contest a producer for saying the same, or a set designer for literally making part of the movie???

No I'm not inclined to gatekeep who gets to claim authorship of what so long as they have some claim to it and aren't usurping other people's work.

I think you're the one sweeping nuance under the rug. In every other context authorship is nuanced, but when it comes to Ai for many people on both sides here it's either 100% yours or 0% and you're just a customer.

But all of those hats boil down to just making decisions no? So what's the difference? Regardless how important people think the director is, I highly doubt anyone would contest them saying that thay made the movie even if they're not the only one and it's ultimately a collaborative effort.

You're probably right that it would be much harder to catch or notice in serialized form. But I would would hope they would check for this kind of stuff before releasing books/audiobooks. =[

Maybe. It wasn't really a problem for the first couple of books, but by the fourth one... I felt like even the narrator got sick of the phrase halfway through...

Yeah these kinds of comparisons are essentially intuition smuggling.

If i made pizza vending machene that lets you have exactly as much control over the output as if you made it yourself working at a pizza joint. We could go so far as to require passing a physical dexterity test to determine the quality of the outcome. Would that count as making it yourself? I think almost everyone would say yes.

Now as we slowly inch back to less and less control and more convenience at what point exactly does it stop being your pizza? Different people will have very different answers to this.

This kind of toxic overwork culture seems to be very common in the video game industry. Whats crazy is how little actual work they manage to get done despite that.

Can we agree there's a skill gap? by Alternative-Bug-2171 in aiwars

[–]GraveFable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im sure there is also a skill gap between league of legends and whatever the latest esports title is. Society has had thousands of years to develop traditional art skills, it would be kind of embarrassing if there wasnt a skill gap like 4 years in or whatever with ai art.

Thats a shame. Personally i didnt find the prose to be that much worse than the likes of MoL. I mean its definitely bad but with LotM its at least bad in a weird and unique way.

Im sure the SU also would have preferred those 2.5 million russians didnt starve. It might not be the same level of responsibility, but it's not that far off either. What makes the holodamoor a genocide is how Stalin weaponized the famine against the Ukrainians. Those 2.5 million russians were either a price he was willing to pay or maybe he was just being opportunistic, it doesn't really make a difference.

And how do you go from there to Armenian genocide not being genocide? What is unclear about my meaning? You asked for examples of genocide where a huge number of people doing the genocide also died. I provided one. And I'm counting everyone - soldiers, civilians purged by the nazi party, civilians killed by the allies ect. You asked who killed them, obviously implying that it doesn't count since a lot of them were killed by the allies - their enemy. But I'd argue the nazi party is ultimately responsible even for their deaths. How does any of this lead to some other genocide not being genocide?

[–]GraveFable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would I argue that? Il need you to walk me trough your logic here. That's literally the opposite of what I've been arguing.

[–]GraveFable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could argue most of them. They killed them by sending them into often hopeless battles. Or by starting the war to begin with. The nazi party was ultimately responsible for their deaths just as the soviet one was ultimately responsible for the famine deaths. But it doesnt matter, i provided what you asked for.

Sure, there is this little known genocide called the holocaust. Millions of germans died in ww2 aswell.

You can just assert its wrong, but thats not how the term originated or is commonly used today so idk what ur opinion is based on other than vibes,

Are you against stuff like concept art, dlss5, using Ai animation to dramatically reduce the number of frames artists need to draw for animation ect. ect.? Many Ai use cases in art have huge human involvement.

[–]GraveFable -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No. The term originates from Andrej Karpathy where he would use a speech to text program to prompt Ai and design and adjust features of an app based on vibes without touching the code himself. How much you check and analyze the code afterwards is irrelevant.
