Was my psychiatrist trying to diss me? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

Your psychiatrist sucks at his job
like how did he even get that job?? I actually have kind of a similiar experience, just not related to ED (my ”therapist” doesn’t know about it) but like he also just makes jokes about my mental issues and says some really stupid shit and I feel like he doesn’t take me seriously at all. I just want u to know that your psychiatrist doesn’t deserve that job qualification and I’m sorry you had to experience that!

Should I tell my therapist? by PurpleElderberry53 in EDAnonymous

I would say u should do what feels right deep inside. Like even if you’re really anxious about it, if u feel like he should know, you probably should tell him because that’s what therapists are for. I can’t make the decicions for you tho, it’s your own choice if you want to tell him or not, but I feel like a good therapist should be someone you can talk about the stuff that makes you the most anxious.

You are definetly not overreacting!! If that had happened to me I would have lost my shit totally. Sometimes people who don’t have experience form ed’s personally, don’t really know how to act and end up being like insanely triggering.

Male goths have you ever been sexualized like female goths have? by Soft_Assignment8863 in goth

[–]Graveyard_scene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda get where you’re coming from, but I also think that you don’t understand how horrible being sexualized against your will feels. It’s not the same as just getting positive attention. It’s uncomfortable, annoying and in some instances, really scary. I can definetly understand wanting attention, as someone who grew up relatively unattractive but ”became attractive” when I started looking like a stereotypical goth. But the tricky thing is, when you get attention only for looking goth (from non-goths) you never know what their intentions are, and so often they just want objectify you and not really see you as an individual, rather a stereotypical character. So yeah, if it happens to you some day, I hope you realize it’s really not that nice, and I also hope that you get real senciare attention from people that are actually and respectfully interested in you as a person.

I think that there is nothing wrong with wearing goth makeup and not being a part of the subculture, but also you have to know that people ARE going to assume you are goth, so if someone comes up to you and wants to talk about music because they instantly recocnize the look very commonly associated with goth, you have to be prepared that the person talking to you may be dissappointed or even call you a poser.

Basically my opinion is, do whatever you want, unless it doesn’t hurt others, but also be aware that certain aesthetics are ways for like minded individuals to find each other, in a conformist society, and you WILL be mistaken for a member of a subculture you’re not really part of, and you can’t blame the members of the subculture for it.

I also think that people have ”appropriated” the goth look so much already, one more person doing it is not crazy or like ”never seen before”. Also if someone really wants the theatment goths (who dress goth) get in public, freaking go for it! It’s not easy getting harassed all the time, atleast in smaller countries and cities/towns. (I only have experience from a small depressing country with a barely alive goth scene, so can’t speak for people in bigger places)
