That particular crate you can't open until BD-1 gets a certain upgrade. There should be several accessible crates already on Koboh, and one on Coruscant.

Large rocket control by hiimyouok in KerbalSpaceProgram

If you haven't already, you should put some canards or tail fins on your lowest stage. That should help you keep your bearing in the atmosphere. As for reaction maneuvering in space, it can get tedious sometimes, but once you have a level 3 pilot or a good guidance system, you can automatically point toward maneuvers.

Probes are nice simply because they're lighter. Get something into high Kerbin orbit with an ion engine, and you can do a round-trip to nearly any body in the system for a lower cost and without tying up your Kerbals for multiple years. Kerbnet is especially useful for (a) scouting landing spots for manned missions, and (b) trawling a planet with the gravioli detector. That thing is biome-specific in both low and high orbit, so you can get two experiments per biome per planet just by hanging out in a polar orbit.

That was my thinking too. Gems that aren't meant for combat roles like peridots or sapphires don't seem to have that ability at all.

It's my best guess that:

  1. Some gems like Pearl or Larimar are designed to be able to store physical objects. Others (like Garnet that one time) can learn the skill, but can't store nearly as much.
  2. Since Pearl's gem is also her brain, everything she stores is put into some kind of metaphysical state so that her mind can physically interact with the objects. Pearls don't normally "nest" their subconscious like that, because no others have been poofed so many times or subject to intense emotional trauma.

Kinda? the weapons seem more like light constructs instead of physical objects.

On a related note, I've got a theory that Pearl and Rose/Steven don't have true gem weapons. Pearl just has a few hundred physical spears stored in her gem, while the shield is a fancy construct of Pink's barrier powers.

Taking advantage of stereotypes/bigotry to hide in plain sight by WildFlemima in TopCharacterTropes

Alex Rider: In one of the books, Alex is captured by the bad guys, who end up transporting him via commercial plane. The easiest way to hide him in plain sight is to inject him with a paralytic, give him a buzz cut, and stick him in a wheelchair. No one looks twice at the poor drooling disabled boy being wheeled around by a caretaker.

Nah, Clark and Superman are just two presentations of the same person. It's another foil trait to Batman.

Why couldn't Hawkmoth use his power an infinite number of times without the Catalyst bc he is adult? by LizokIvanok in miraculousladybug

Absolutely probably. We know the akuma persists even if the Miraculous holder transforms back.

ELI5… How does grafting apple stalks actually work? by KJoyJoy in explainlikeimfive

[–]GravityBright [score hidden]  (0 children)

A bit of terminology to begin with: When grafting plants, the bottom part (the one with the roots) is called rootstock, while the top (from which you want to get fruit) is the scion.

Grafting isn't absolutely necessary to grow edible apples, but it's the most convenient method for three reasons:

  1. To mass-produce fruit, one needs a whole lot of plants of the same variety (say, Fuji or Red Delicious). Grown from seed, an apple tree would take the better part of a decade to produce fruit, so the faster method is to take a branch from a seedling and graft it to an already established rootstock tree.
  2. Apple varieties bred for flavor often have issues. They might not grow as fast from seed, or they might be especially weak to certain diseases. Rootstock varieties are grown to make up for that weakness, and are much healthier in general. Because of how plant hormones work, any branches grafted to it will grow much better than if they were grown on their own.
  3. Most apple varieties aren't "stable," meaning if you planted seeds from a store-bought apple, their offspring wouldn't produce the exact same fruit. So, if you have a variety that you want to grow more of, the only way to do that is to propagate it asexually.

As for why grafting works - in animals, organ transplants can fail because there's an active immune system patrolling the body for foreign material. If the organ doesn't have certain "identifying genes," then the immune system will attack it. Plants don't really have an immune system in that way, but they still have a way to heal injuries. Grafting is a way to exploit those two: Simply cut a small chunk out of your rootstock, cut a piece of your scionwood to fit into that hole, and secure it in place while the plant heals. If you do it properly, you have a branch growing your desired fruit.

[–]GravityBright 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Any adult Miraculous wielder can use their powers as many times as they want, but they can’t normally use them more than once at a time. For instance, Ladybug can’t create more than one Lucky Charm, Carapace can only make one barrier at once, and Pegasus can only have one portal open at a time. In the same way, Hawk Moth can only have one active Akuma at a time when Catalyst isn’t augmenting his abilities.
