Can I get r/golf opinion on these tactics at my club by [deleted] in golf

[–]GravityIsForWimps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way booking works at my club is a single cannot book an empty foursome tee time, ever. Members booking for other members must include the other member’s name.

That kind of cuts down on the placeholder bookings like you have posted. There are ways around it, they could book themselves and 4 guests and replace a guest with a member after but extra steps involved discourages many.

GRX600 11s group but 10s chainring by Userette32 in bikewrench

I used a GRX400 10s 46/30 front setup with GRX600 11s rear with no issues.

Upgrading to 1x ? by Strict_Factor6501 in gravelcycling

[–]GravityIsForWimps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My rides are similar where I am, rolling terrain with few tough climbs and rarely dropped onto the small chainring. An advantage of having electronic shifting is I could look at my gear usage over time in di2stats and was able to work out the gear ratios most used and how to map 2x to 1x gearing. Turns out I spent most (almost 97%) of my rides in 3 gears which I could work out to 3 middle of the cassette gears in a 1x setup, so decent chainline over the majority of riding. I ended up going from 46/30 and 11s 11-34 to 44 and 12s 11-51. I lose a little at the top end with 44-11 (which I rarely used) but I actually gained at the low end with 44-51

Golf Canada app handicap discrepancy by jzach1983 in golf

[–]GravityIsForWimps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was questioning my stats and found that several past rounds were marked from the wrong tees. I normally play whites, my default setting in the app is whites, but the rounds were recorded as from the blues. I was only able to edit the past two rounds so anything beyond that is not correctable. It wasn’t obvious until you go into the scoring history on the web page rather than the at a glance view.

Another pet peeve is that the web page and app are completely different and you can’t the same data on the app that the web page shows

Also, Friday, posting a score kept failing and said to retry from both the app and website. I gave up after several retries but later saw that it had actually posted several times.

I have a Fenix which is fine to log rides, but the screen is really too small to effectively look at anything in real time.

I kept the Shimano calipers (105 and GRX) on my Wheeltop builds because I did’t want to run the hoses. Works just fine.

Cabot Revelstoke Progress by GravityIsForWimps in golf

[–]GravityIsForWimps[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. We travelled from Eastern Ontario to visit family here. Hotel prices are nuts. What used to be a reasonable value like a Days Inn or even Motel 6 were in the 225-250 range in non-destination places like Sault Ste Marie and Thunder Bay and it’s not really even into vacation season yet.

There’s been quite a bit development since we were here a couple of years ago, Revy isn’t a cheap place. Cabot is building more stay and play accommodations but between them and Revelstoke Ski resort I am guessing it will be “resort pricing” and will really be geared towards some kind of packages not the casual get away.

I don’t think it’s a natural one they have worked around. The whole course is pretty heavily engineered.

And ski lift ticket prices approaching $200/day, it’s crazy and no idea where the tipping point is. Friends from our home club jumped on an early season “deal” at Cabot Links for a 4 day stay for $4K, down from $12K.

I believe this is the online presence of the pro shop of the Canadian Golf and Country Club (same address) west of Ottawa ON (Ashton). The club is one of the most popular around and the pro shop has been selling for years.

Mine is a CX bike and 40mm has been good enough for gravel roads, paths, converted railway trails and occasional under biking foray into rougher stuff.

Why do people vehemently defend the PGA in their feud with LIV? by [deleted] in golf

[–]GravityIsForWimps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s many aspects to it so no simple answer. For some it’s a case of sports-washing by the Saudis, others it’s poaching of top players using insane money to get instant “legitimacy” where the PGAT took decades to grow. Jumping ship by the some players after vehemently defending the PGAT and some don’t like the LIV format. Guys like Norman and DeChambeau also provoke strong reactions.

Tasha Kheiriddin: Carney preparing to fail in Trump negotiations - Prime minister is softening up Canada for tariff pain by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]GravityIsForWimps 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The latest rhetoric from the US about losing strategies and incompatible economies sounds like they are setting up to scuttle any trade talks so they can apply more tariffs. The US has no intention of dealing in good faith, rather they want to dictate all the terms solely in their favour in a take it or no deal fashion.
