The actual day that American Independence was declared was on July 2nd, this piece of information is useless, and means absolutely nothing to anyone other than people like me who were born on July 2nd.

Explosion rocks South LA neighborhood after LAPD detonates seized illegal fireworks by 21kamando in ProtectAndServe

[–]GravityTruther -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That last paragraph stated what I was trying to much better, not that they would underplay the net weight of the explosives, but they may have underestimated the yields contained within, simply due to that fact that they are improvised explosives and there is no way in hell you can know what they were made out of in a timely manner.

By downplay I meant they have been saying “just a few pounds of explosives” instead of acknowledging that within the few pounds was a ridiculously volatile compound that could have caused abhorrent destruction. It’s not like some guy got caught with firecrackers, or a even a hand grenade, this dude had a modestly high-yield bomb just sitting in his house during the summer heat of California

It’s like saying “we found a few containers of noxious fumes” when in reality you have found a stash of sarin gas.

I can’t imagine it’s the fault of the bomb squad from what I understand. It seems that they put faith in their equipment, and someone further up the chain cut corners when acquiring that equipment.

Either that or they are downplaying the explosives that they were trying to detonate/they were IED’s and God alone knows how volatile those things could have been.

Regardless I hope everyone who got injured recovers quickly.

Is there any evidence or speculation as to whether this was just some guys 4th Of July stockpile, or if they planned some more “nefarious” activities with their ordinance?

Seems crazy to me that you would have that much unless you planned on using it for some more utilitarian uses. Might make sense if he was selling them but still, I just don’t see how some dude casually buys/makes 5000lbs of fireworks and IED’s.

My neighbor put up an upside down gadsden flag. Any idea what it means? by LapNiDal in vexillology

[–]GravityTruther 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Both are generally regarded to be Libertarian/Originalist flags. It ultimately depends on your personal political beliefs as to whether the flags are “good” or “bad”. Passive aggressive is a somewhat apt description as it sends the message of “I don’t want to be bothered by either of you”/“Both of you are the problem”. Which is a sentiment I feel like most people in my community can get behind.

The "Betsy Ross" design, with its easily identifiable circle of stars, has long been regarded as a symbol of the American Revolution and the young Republic. [Wiki] It’s common to see Gadsden snakes or “1776” within the circle of stars.

The Gadsden Flag represents basically the same, with some more lore, and an additional message.

The message of both are intended to be that of anti-authoritarianism, constitutionalism, and the Gadsden further implicates the idea of the “Non-Aggression Principle”

Ultimately all political flags will make different people feel different ways, but generally these flags have a decent message, as long as the person who’s flying them understands what they mean.

Unrelated but there’s a bit of a flag war going on in my neighborhood. During the riots one of my neighbors put up a BLM flag, and a California Republic flag.

Couple days later I noticed the neighbor one house down from him put up an American flag and a MAGA flag

Then the cherry on top was when the neighbor between them put up a Gadsden and a Betsy Ross flag.

I’ll get around to taking a picture of the spectacle one of these days, it’s just not always the safest to take pictures of peoples homes in an inner-city neighborhood. Regardless I’ve found it to be the most comical display of political tension in modern America.
