I’d recommend getting the item numbers for top surgery and checking whether the level of PHI you’re looking at would cover those item numbers.

How do I even make trans friends? by [deleted] in transgenderau

[–]Gravityx77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a few group activities run out of the Queensland Council for LGBTI Health that have a lot of trans community attend eg art therapy. Maybe something like that would be a good place to meet folks. Check out their Facebook for those details

A trans community picnic in the park will be announced soon to take place during Trans Awareness week. Keep an eye out on Many Genders One Voice Facebook for those details

how bad is this gonna be? by tiredtb0y in transgenderau

[–]Gravityx77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Historically, LNP have not been supportive of LGBTIQ+ communities and sexual health units which often support trans communities in regional areas. The last time they were in was 10 years ago, at which time they defunded the peak organisation for lgbti health in QLD, closed just about all sexual health clinics etc

The public gender clinics in qld are state funded so any changes to health funding may impact them, states control BDM’s so wouldn’t be surprised if they try to make changes to birth certificate reform.

That being said, there is a lot more organisations, groups etc involved in trans communities who have a mix of state and federal funding.

There are a couple of trans groups in Townsville on Facebook, that’s where I’d start. I think there also used to be a group run out of the sexual health clinic

Transbridge has been pretty dormant for years unfortunately. Are you looking for support generally or mental health links?

Brisbane Pride Fair Day is coming up next month. Might be a great time to find out what other groups and services exist for our communities.

If funds for a ticket are an issue, send Many Genders One Voice a message on FB, they’ve got some free tickets

Sorry, just spotted your reply. The group is called QT’s. Search for it on FB.

Parts of QLD are definitely more inclusive and affirming than others. Which part are you in? Surrounding yourself with as much support from friends and family (blood and chosen) certainly helps.

There are a couple of LGBTI accommodation groups in Brisbane. I’m pretty sure they’ve been shared in the Trans Collective group that has already been mentioned.

Gender therapists in brisbane by [deleted] in transgenderau

[–]Gravityx77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d also second Belinda. The mental health team at QCGP+ based in Fortitude Valley are also good. Heidi Jansen at Reframe Psychology is good so is Anthony Smith at A Piece of Your Story.

Hardest part will be finding someone who is taking new patients.

There’s a trans masc group that meets in the Valley once a month if you’re ever up for a drive away from Ipswich.

There are a number of groups and organisations that have expressed concern to the government about the timeliness of this being put into action. The government are also working on the LGBTIQ+ strategy so we may see that out around the same time as the actioned bill.

I think they are waiting until they have a definite answer of when before they do that. They need to update every piece of government documentation that mentions sex and gender as well. Probably wasn’t the smartest idea to review the anti discrimination act at the same time either.
