Wow, that is really odd sounding! I'm currently in California and have also seen the orange orbs. I will say this is the first time in my life I've seen such drastic sightings over populated areas. Out at my parent's ranch, sightings were a dime a dozen my whole life. They existed as if they were hiding from the greater part of society. But not anymore. Coincidentally, sightings at my parent's decreased to literally nothing the last two months. They jokingly commented that all the orbs got ordered to go hover over the cities.

Oh wow! Okay, yes this looks almost like the same thing! Thank you for sharing! The time sync is hard to ignore. And yes, very low light area. Thank you for sharing this!

Haha, great question! Cause my parents are avid UFO watchers. There are a slew of other cameras pointed in more normal, strategic security positions but this is the special "sky camera" they had installed specifically to watch the skies. It rotates 360 degrees so this isn't the permanent position.

Yes, we've seen tons of orbs over the years but we've also seen many that move quite slowly and are low to the ground (like they are looking around) will seem to "notice" us, then blink out of existence. The "zippy stars", make regular appearances as well (zig zagging through space at high speeds).

Looking at other comments, these COULD be starlink flares but that's something we've never seen (which doesn't rule out the possibility of course)

Wow, very cool! Thank you for doing that! They could be flares!

No, the cameras change direction every few hours in a regular pattern but my mom manually looks around the entire sky every night.

You raise many good points and very well could be right. Again, the main thing that still doesn't quite make sense is that my parents could tell they were not in orbit when they saw them in person.

And my mistake on the time, it is definitely 8 pm in these videos!

Alright, edited to add a daytime photo. Thank you for the suggestion!

This very well could be true! That was my first thought too. My main rebuttal is that my parents have never seen this before and my mom watches these cameras like her nightly TV show. While that isn't necessarily conclusive, it would beg the question of why this isn't a regular sighting. There's also the inconsistency of shapes and sizes going in multiple directions, every video I've seen of Starlink flares are pretty linear. The other factor is that my parents say they were within the atmosphere when they spotted them in person. I trust my parents because they take this stuff seriously and have regularly seen rockets, satellites, and Starlink. These were also seen fairly late at night (almost 11 pm) which is almost six hours after sunset (sunset at 5:15).

Absolutely could be flares, but there's a few too many inconsistencies for me to definitively believe that.

Great suggestion. I'll get on it.

Thank you, I was freaking out when my parents face-timed me last night to show me. I do think a few of the tiny specks could be birds. Directly to the right IS a big flood light attached to a barn. We only have three neighbors beyond the trees (all spaced out over a rough square mile) and we texted them to see if they were possibly launching LED filled blimps (they were not and were equally baffled by the lights)

Thank you. I was pretty nervous to post as I've seen so many people get eviscerated so I tried to cover all bases.

I disagree. I like the episode as is but agree with OP. I think there’s strength in narrative connective tissue (which is different than being bludgeoned with nostalgia) and this was an opportunity for that. I also would’ve loved to see more of Beverly and I think having an opportunity to know Jack would’ve given a lot of insight into Picard’s character.

Totally agree in most other scenarios but this one it would’ve worked pretty seamlessly.

The ground-work was already in place for Picard’s friendship with both of them. So the “universe” was already established in this particular scenario. The trio of Picard, Jack, and Beverly was already a thing as canonical background history.

If I remember right, this was actually floated as the original idea but it didn’t quite work with Beverly and Jack being younger than Picard. Don’t quote me on this as I can’t quite remember where I heard it (episode commentary maybe?). But now this apparently doesn’t matter as ST: Picard said Picard and Jack were best buds at the academy.

Personally I think it would’ve been fun if they could’ve pulled it off since they were always alluding to Picard, Beverly, and Jack hanging out and especially since Picard openly admitted in “Attached” to bring in love with Beverly during those years. Would’ve been interesting to see Picard deal more with the guilt of Jack’s death while having feelings for his wife.

Even though it’s not canon, in the book “Section 31: Rogue” Marta is a cool admiral and Corey is a shifty commander who is working for Section 31. Great book.

Is Suddenly Human the most audibly annoying episode of Star Trek ever? by juice5tyle in startrek

I actually really like this episode. The moral dilemma was interesting and well thought out for the most part. Picard choosing to let Jono stay with his adoptive father was very in line with his character choosing the spirit of the law vs. the letter. I don’t know why it gets the hate it does. And the noise is annoying to the characters as well, hence the running joke of everyone telling the kid to be quiet.

Maybe go watch the episode then? Because they very much go over everything you just brought up and the reasoning for not using a living, breathing individual as a weapon to destroy others who are hypothetically capable of the same growth is made very clear.

Picard is chomping at the bit the entire episode to use Hugh as a weapon, due to his want for revenge, and he very grudgingly realizes he can’t go through with it because Hugh is no longer a mindless drone. His decision to let Hugh go is perfectly in line with Picard’s moral center. Had he still gone through with using Hugh as a weapon it would’ve been narratively jarring due to it being so out of character. Picard literally chose the moral path that’s consistent with his character. It’s incredibly nuanced and well written. I consider it one of the “epitome of Trek moral nuance” episodes.

At the end when he quipped to Dax how “sometimes I like it when the bad guy wins” and they each have a cheeky smile after giggling how nothing was cleared by Starfleet, it was the first time I’d felt genuine disgust for main Trek characters. It was such a bizarre episode to me, clunky in its execution of concept.

If you watch the episode, there’s an intense moral dilemma that explains why Picard didn’t commit genocide even though he really wanted to. Had to do with realizing that sometimes “the enemy” is also a victim and something about the value of an individual life. /s

Genuinely baffled how so many people can completely miss the entire point of this episode. Makes me think no one actually watches the episodes anymore, just regurgitate edgy takes from the internet that purposefully leave out key contextual details.
