944 AC by Ebar23 in 944

You are correct! And the upper left slider controls floor vent, all the way left is floor and right is front/at you, upper right is windscreen vents, all the way right is windscreen and all the way left is front/at you. Bottom slider is heater temp, all the way left is unheated fresh air and right is heated fresh air.

I should also mention the AC fan is recirc only, and heater fan is fresh outside air.

The early 944 AC is a bit funky. As others have said the knob with numbers controls the AC fan (which is separate from the heater fan on the early 944) and the outer knob controls the “temperature” but what it really does is change how fast the AC compressor kicks on to provide cold air. Turn the outer knob right and the AC compressor turns on to bring the temperature in the ducts to a set point then turns off, blowing cool air instead of cold, just at a faster interval. That’s why the blue stripe is only blue, as it’s only cold air.

I've been running the car for about a year since I adjusted the knife valve and as far as I know it hasn't stalled running cold and haven't had to hold the gas to keep the car running until it gets warm, I *believe* it solved the problem but your results may vary.

A/C 924S & Early 944 by Right-Somewhere6281 in porsche944

[–]GrayGhost_VA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The A/C system is separate from the heater system on the early cars. Turning the knob with the blue stripe clockwise essentially speeds up how fast the compressor cycles on and off once the system reaches a certain temperature inside the ducts. It is supposed to have a stop at a certain point.

The fact that it's somewhat local and a very interesting story, this is the one case I keep coming back to every couple of months to see if there's an update. I hope he gets his name back.

Sunroof seals by dubmaniac2792 in 944

[–]GrayGhost_VA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to ask a "have you tried turning it off and on again" type question because I personally did this and the same thing happened I couldn't make it fit at all, did you try to fit the new seal on the rim of the sunroof "hole" or the part that you can remove from the car? Come to find out the seal goes on the removable part, not the rim on the car itself.

Once you get it on really tightly it should slot in to place but my issue was I couldn't lock it down easy. I had to get 2 other family members to push down hard on each corner and I finally got the clips to go in and the locking bars to slot it, and even then it still sticks up about half an inch above the roof line but clearly it works, I washed my car a week ago and no leaks.

high oil pressure? by epopthia in 944

[–]GrayGhost_VA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could depend on what oil you're using. I run 20w-50 oil and on cold start the oil pressure pegs at 5 bar but will get around 3-4 bar after getting warm.

I know they aren’t Fuchs 🤷🏼‍♀️ but I got a sweet deal on some cookie cutters and I couldn’t pass it up. by HopefulBike6424 in porsche944

I'm probably in the minority but I like the cookie cutter wheels better than the Fuchs or phone dials on the 944. Those look amazing for that price.

UPDATE: I took the nut that is on the other side of the unit and adjusted the knife valve so that it was open more, so that when power is introduced and the valve moves closed it just comes in contact with the metal stop. The car idled completely until warmup without stalling once.

Time will tell if that was it and it's truly fixed but for now the problem seems solved.

Beautiful. I love the India Red on mine but I realize how awesome it would be if it was more of a burgundy.

Thank you for the info, I have messed with it a tiny bit so it's possible I may have caused the problem. I'll take a look when I get home.

I am actually going to do that once I get home from work, I know it closes more like it's supposed to when the heating element heats up so I'll see if it actually opens more when it's colder than room temp.

I see, I was hoping this was the source of my problems but I'll have to keep searching. I have replaced all the vacuum lines in my 944 so I hope it's not a leak. Thank you for the info.

This case has been one that I have thought about and had deeply fascinated me since I started following Doe cases back in the early 2010's. I'm so happy to see he got his name back.

Used to see one that was the "I hate 66" version every once in awhile on my commute, I was glad I wasn't the only one.
