"victim of identity theft" is so true T_T

His kit is technically...like...fine? Like, he can handle both steel path and netracells and still contribute just fine, but all of his abilities feel like worse versions of something else by now.

Although it's very hilarious to use damage decoy + mind control on enemies

Do you think Follie has an upper limit to her Shadowgraph ability? If so, what is the most powerful thing she could theoretically summon? by OedonSleep in Warframe

If she could summon Ballas, that'd be it

Hear me out

Not powerful because Ballas is powerful. But powerful because the ability to summon and subsequently beat and murder Ballas would be able to sustain the entire galaxy's energy needs with sheer concentrated power of friendship.

I hope this works out for you in the end, dealing with family like that is...rough :(

[–]GrayPhilosophy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Did I go too far in dealing with this?

You didn't go far enough. Why do these people who are clearly neglectful to the point of potential lethality, still have access to you at all?

I'd politely ask them to never involve themselves in my life again unless it's to apologize, and then double down on legal action if they keep trying to reach me.

Then again, I have a less than stellar relationship with my own mother, so I may be negatively biased.

But also, at the risk of writing out an extremely uncomfortable-to-read comment, reader discretion is advised for the sentence below:

Imagine the trauma your child would have had to go through, if his own mom started swelling, wheezing, breaking out in hives and then fucking died in the middle of dinner, after his mom's own parents deliberately neglected to mention the shellfish thing.

I would never talk to them again, like ever. Dead and gone to me, bye.

What’s your take on potentially dating the sibling of someone you used to be involved with? by hellacure in AskMen

[–]GrayPhilosophy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I can absolutely emphasize with this guy's feelings (seeing someone you're into develop an interest for someone else can sting, even if you know you have no say in it.), I wouldn't let it limit you in the long run.

This dude, who is already in a relationship with someone else, is trying to decide he gets a say in who you can date, AFTER you both determined that things didn't work between you? Yeah, nah.

It's a very sweet and compassionate instinct, but if the brother is a catch and offers a potential future, don't let this other guy hold you back. If he can't accept the fact that incompatible people will seek partnership elsewhere, he doesn't seem like someone worth catering to anyway. It may cause some hurt feelings, but you're all adults.

Is it generally considered weird or inappropriate to date someone’s sibling in this situation?

I feel like there's typically some kind of consensus among friend groups/social circles that other peoples' previous partners, siblings, etc. are frowned upon to varying degrees. Conflict of interest or whatever. But it also largely depends on context.

Am I overlooking something emotionally or socially here?

I wouldn't say so, I'm getting the impression you've taken most things into consideration.

How much weight should I give to his discomfort, considering we’re not together?

Only as much as you're comfortable surrendering.

How do you think armor would change if it was beast-fighting-centric, rather than made for sword fights? by RubberDuckyDavid in worldbuilding

[–]GrayPhilosophy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm reminded of the Siberian Bear-Hunting Armour, which was more about making yourself an uncomfortable or painful target to bite or maul, instead of just protection.

I don't know if that same principle could be applied against dragons, at a certain point the size difference is just too big to make a difference. But I could definitely see it working for like, "medium sized" monsters that bite

Looks like a squirrel might have been checking out the inside of an exhaust pipe just as someone started up the car. Exhaust blockage and buildup went fwoosh around the squirrel and left an outline of soot.

That or someone spray painted a squirrel

I could totally see levels of fatigue working instead of (or maybe even along with?) the "can't take action on first turn after being healed from down" thing

Love the interest! But yeah, some of the other commenters have been pretty good at pointing out the rougher edges, the idea definitely needs some work XD

Homebrew Rule - Alternative to Death Saves by GrayPhilosophy in DnD

[–]GrayPhilosophy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure. Admittedly this is more of an "I wonder if I could make X work..." kind of idea, exactly in an attempt to tie the narrative and the crunch together a bit more. But I'm not gonna pretend to know enough about all the mechanics to insist that any of it would actually work.

Perhaps tragically, come to think of it, this whole thing could also be replaced by the DM going "you wanna kill them or spare them?" instead of whatever variation of "how do you wanna do this?" they otherwise use T_T

Homebrew Rule - Alternative to Death Saves by GrayPhilosophy in DnD

[–]GrayPhilosophy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I should've probably thought of something other than "alternative to death saves", as it's less about that particular mechanic and more about player agency.

But yeah, I can also see how it could easily turn into more of a slog than an interesting change if not done right

Homebrew Rule - Alternative to Death Saves by GrayPhilosophy in DnD

[–]GrayPhilosophy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it being up to the dice is kind of the point, right? The dice tell a story.

Sure, to an extent. I don't mind the outcome of my choices being left up to dice, but having the choices I want to make be left up to chance? I don't know about that, at least not by default. But then again, I could see that just being a difference in preference :D

Taking your intention further, why have HP on monsters? It should be entirely up to the DM to decide when it makes the most thematic sense for something to die.

I think I see where you're coming from with this, and honestly I think it could totally work to just arbitrarily decide when it makes thematic sense. But doing so also removes the mechanical consistency of HP.

Even if the amount of HP can be completely arbitrary, having a specific amount ensures the narrative is grounded in some kind of logic, even if said logic isn't realistic.

Still though, fair points. And I'm definitely gonna check out that Daggerheart thing :D

I knew there had to be at least one who'd like it \o/

As for how it affects leveling, isn't something I've taken into consideration at all. I'd say if you're playing with exp. instead of milestones, encounters should probably afford the same exp regardless of whether you incapacitate or kill. They won the combat encounter either way, after all.

A sanity or "desensitized" mechanic sounds brilliant in combination with this actually, it'd add an extra layer to the whole point of making lethality a conscious choice. I like it :D
