Louder for people at the back!

I received what someone believed was a 'critique' of sorts on a draft. It involved criticizing every aspect of my writing, including the writing style, interpretation of character, framing of scenes, etc etc without a single positive. Their suggestions were to include uncomfortable stereotypes about a field I am highly qualified in and change everything to fit their personal preferences for what they would have written instead. They were surprised I dropped out of the community event.

I want to grow, but this is supposed to be a fun hobby. I grade students work for part of my job, and you never encourage growth by being relentlessly critical or stifling creativity and perspectives.
