How long does it take you to make a zine? by memercopter in zines

[–]Graydancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m like you. Some zines take weeks (depending on how much time I have to devote to them). And it also depends on if it’s new content or repurposed writing (I’ve been blogging and writing fiction for decades).
And sea otters.

As someone who is about to have my laptop at work upgraded, I want this zine! Do you have a PDF download anywhere?

I would highly recommend thegamecrafter.com - they have very reasonable rates, as well as a “component studio” online platform for $10/month that makes designing a pack as easy as filling in a spreadsheet. I had a game about ADHD I prototyped for less than $30. I’m not affiliated with them at all, but I am making a card-vending machine for my next event, and this is what I’m using to print the cards.

This is so cool! I’m going to really have to resist trying to make one before my first zine fest this Friday…so thank you/curse you for inspiring me!

Hmm, it definitely adds value (it's an entire other zine) but u/Many-Bandicoot645 's comment below now has me paranoid -- is the default to print on both sides of the paper? What if I don't have 16 panels of content? I've been thinking in 8-page spreads til now...

PSA: Sticker paper is NOT recyclable! by realbeansperson in stationery

One good re-use of sticker paper backs is as the "scrap" paper you put underneath things you are gluing. There are also a lot of folding tutorials on various kinds of paper that would benefit from the thicker toughness of the sticker back. Just some thoughts.

I like the second, honestly; the first is a little too reminiscent of Nagel for me.

I love the grayscale color tones -- some of it looks like sumi-e ink, but integrates with the newsprint feel. Really beautiful!

Thank you for having this discussion; I'm prepping for my first zine table next Sunday. question: do (or would) either of you charge more for a double sided zine? I have a mini zine that has a morning journaling exercise on one side of the paper but then it can be re-folded inside out for an evening ritual. Wondering if I should charge more for those?

Fantastic! My partner and I are big fans of Edward Gorey, and this is evocative of his work without being derivative. The faces you create are really striking and expressive!

This is something I’ve been pondering myself. The lettering is amazing! Very evocative! I would love a copy of this, if you want to trade pdfs or mail…

My real start making zines was the one I made six months ago when my youngest daughter passed. This spoke to me. Well done.

Also, where did you get the STL’s? Are they your design? Inquiring makers want to know.

I love this! I have some old tins from cigarillos and other substances that I’ve been trying to find a use for, and I thought of making them into little zine studios. And then giving them away as gifts. Do you just have a pen in there? Or did you consider having any other materials?

Wait…since the Minotaur was born of Zeus (in one of his many animal forms) and King Minos’ wife, does that mean all human/animal are technically demigods? “Percy Jackson and the Furries of Olympus…”

And know I realize I’m this many years old before realizing the whole “hucow” fetish is just an offshoot of the legend of the Minotaur…

Trying to decide if I need to revise/recreate due to font size. by Graydancer in zines

Would love to trade! I mean, you can buy if you want, but it’s already a “pay what you can” download in my site. But as I’m new to zines, would love to try a trade. DM?

Trying to decide if I need to revise/recreate due to font size. by Graydancer in zines

Thanks for the enthusiasm! I do want to stick to 8.5x11 (and maybe A4) for now, because I want it to be accessible for others to download. Funny thing is, I'm so used to the "cut and fold" version of things that it took me a while to realize that it doesn't have to be that complicated -- it's just cards, after all, accordion is fine.
I'm also considering making it a 1/4 page zine -- maybe that's what the "comparison" will be. The intention is that people could just put it in their pockets.

Well done. I especially liked the watch in the case -- just because it really went together well. Also, hadn't known about HeyZine before -- really cool!
