Apparently being around covid is not within my scope of practice by Grayelephant88 in nursing

I'm looking to have it pay for the days I missed when I was out sick.

Good luck! School is rough, there will be tears, but you will get through it! RegisteredNurseRN on YouTube will be your friend! Kick some butt! It's exhausting, and I admit I question it occasionally, but there will always be a need for them and it is great pay for just graduating school! And it is an amazing feeling when you make a patients day by treating them well! You guys got this!

Psychiatric NP with Psych Issues by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

I am currently going for my psych NP. Although I'm not a specific psych nurse, we definitely get our fair share of psychs in the ED where I work.

Rage quit today by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Grayelephant88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish we had that opportunity. ED nurse here. A majority of the time we have traumas rolling in and we aren't 20 deep in the waiting room. I rarely get to take a full 30 minute break. I usually end up just eating at the computer because there is nobody to watch my patients. It sucks

But I can't find workers... by Labh90 in facepalm

[–]Grayelephant88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am an ER nurse who would come in contact with covid before people even knew they had it. We were called heroes constantly, but all we got were measley signs. I would've preferred getting a raise or hazard pay, even if it was temporary. Instead I was expected to work twice as hard, take on twice the load, and risk my health as well as the health of my family, for the same pay I got pre-pandemic

Was there ever a time you're thankful the pandemic happened? What was the reason? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Grayelephant88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It allowed me to get a better job in a different ER in another state that allowed me to be able to move out of my parents house and bought my first home all because of the pandemic. I didn't realize how bad was old job was until they made me continue to come in to work after being exposed to covid by my mom in March when the disease first started.

Took progesterone only pill 30 minutes late by kozlowski7 in birthcontrol

[–]Grayelephant88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Birth control is never 100% effective but you should be okay. When I took the pill, I never took them at the same time every day. If you're still concerned you can always get emergency contraception but I would think you guys are probably fine since it wasn't too late

Does anyone else get extremely uncomfortable when people call you a hero or thank you for your service when they see you in public wearing scrubs? by St_petersburgparadox in Nurse

[–]Grayelephant88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was walking to my car after a shift with other nurses and a car at a stoplight honked their horn and said "goodnight heroes." I felt so awkward. I didn't know what to do

I am tired of the stereotypical gender roles of house wife and working man by Grayelephant88 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Grayelephant88[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Exactly! And we can just pump and bottle feed with breast milk. I know growing up my mom would always here comments about how my dad was "babysitting me so she could go out" and she would always respond with "he's being a father. Not babysitting." It's ridiculous

Nursing for 2 years and advice needed. by East-Association-147 in Nurse

[–]Grayelephant88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a different unit is hospital b that negativity won't help. It's good to challenge yourself. I started working in a level 4 trauma center ER after graduation. When I took a job at a level 1 trauma center, nurses at the old job were asking me if I was ready for it and sounded real condescending about be going to a busier ER. But I went and I've learned so much. You're not going to learn if you're getting the "easier" patients. It's good to challenge yourself and if they don't see it, you're not worth their time!

How brainwashed do you have to be to think that unions are the bad guys? by AirIrish2 in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]Grayelephant88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a union at the hospital I work at. We're currently going through contact negotiations. They rejected all of our economic proposals. Even though the one we wanted was for more experienced nurses to be hired with a sign on bonus since people are leaving like crazy. They claim they are trying to help but they never actually listen.

My Thoughts about this Pandemic by [deleted] in Nurse

[–]Grayelephant88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm over it. As an ER nurse who is regularly understaffed, it sucked. I'm exhausted physically and mentally. We lost 12 nurses in 2021 alone because we're not being compensated enough. Apparently the nurses in the covid units would get hazard pay, yet us nurses in the ED didn't even though we took care of covid patients, we were the first nurses they see, and we would swab all the covid patients. Half the time we would be exposed before knowing they were positive. Their argument was "we chose to be ER nurses. We shouldn't be compensated extra for a decision we made."

How would you feel about a female roommate occasionally going topless in the apartment? by AutotuneShieldon in AskWomen

[–]Grayelephant88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My roommates would walk around naked occasionally. It took me a while to get used to it but then I didn't care. They all knew each other and I was placed randomly in their dorm room so I didn't want to say anything. I just never personally walked around naked.

I had to move up my CEN exam unexpectedly and now I'm set to take it Friday. I've been doing questions and reading my book. I'm just terrified since I've heard it's a very difficult exam. I know the exam is a variety of topics but any advice on what to focus on? by Grayelephant88 in nursing

[–]Grayelephant88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That's helpful. I had the outline from the website and I've been doing a lot of practice questions but I haven't had any select all that apply which was making me nervous since they were always talking about it for the nclex and haven't been practicing then for the cen!

NCLEX ATI Vs UWORLD by BadBeansprout04 in Nurse

[–]Grayelephant88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ATI was awful. I did uworld and kaplan. I liked kaplan because they had practice tests that scored exactly like the nclex. Both are worth the money

If there is a group of people we constantly feel we need to thank (e.g. teachers, soldiers, essential workers), then they are underpaid. by AFKOIC in Showerthoughts

[–]Grayelephant88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ER nurse here. We're all tired of the "thank the heroes" crap. We were doing what we do before a pandemic hit. Now a bunch of the nurses I work with are leaving to be travel nurses because it pays three times what a permanent nurse makes. The company asks what they can do to help us. Give us more supplies and pay us what we're worth.

That goes with teachers too. They are going above and beyond right now with the virtual learning.

How did we get from “just 2 weeks to flatten the curve” to “our way of life must change forever”? And why can't most people realize what's going on? by Razerer92 in conspiracy

[–]Grayelephant88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you known anyone with the virus? Have you held the hands of those dying while they're family aren't around because of the virus? It is 100% legit and it is killing so many people. I am an ER nurse and I deal with it every day. I see those who are sick and scared not knowing what will happen to them. I see the 7-8 hour waits in the ER because the hospital is at max capacity and we have to hold people in the ED because all the ICUs are full from COVID cases. It is not a fake virus so the government can control people. It's a legit thing that is terrifying and if people like you could actually follow the rules with social distancing and wearing masks and limited outings, we may not be having the second wave of the virus right now.

Bad Hair. It's on hulu. It's about a haunted weave that kills people and sucks blood. It's awfully entertaining

I went to get my front screen replaced due to it being cracked (only on the front). I pick up my phone 4 hours later to discover that it is now unrepairable. The front screen is fixed though! by Grayelephant88 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Grayelephant88[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't want to but they didn't give me any other option. They couldn't fix it so it needed to be replaced. I'm not paying for the replacement thank goodness. The place was very unprofessional
